Weekend Wander #11

Welcome to the party!  The party before the party, because I'm sure you've all got amazing party plans tonight!  My itty bitty family took a car ride yesterday and we are spending the night partying with some friends in Idaho.  Little Monkey did fantastic in the car and is now playing, with reckless abandon, with his cute friend "Lo".  I'm excited to see what cool stuff you have going on now, so link it up.  Lemme see what you got!

Wordless Wednesday: Happy New Year Printable

Happy New Year, everyone!  I hope your celebrations are happy, healthy and safe.  If you're planning to drink, please don't drive.  And all the other words of advice and common sense that you already know.

These printables are full sized... I'm in a giving mood.  Click, right click and save.  They are 10x8" and 8x10".

Have a fantastic time celebrating this past year and ringing in the new!

Tasty Tuesday: Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies

These have a lot of different names: Peanut Butter Kiss cookies, Peanut Butter Blossoms, ect... But they are one of my go-to cookies.  Not only are they tasty, but in a pinch you can use refrigerated cookie dough for a super quick treat.  Like when your 6 year old tells you he's taking 2 dozen cookies to school tomorrow as you tuck him into bed...  Sound familiar, anyone?  How about that potluck dinner/BBQ you're having and you're dessert bringers just backed out... people will be here in two hours!?  Christmas party? Halloween party?  Valentine's Day party?  Yep, yep and yep.  This will do.  For an extra festive touch, add a few drops of food coloring to your cookie dough.  Or use seasonal candy instead of Kisses (I've seen them with candy corn, mini Reese's PB cups, peppermint Kisses, heart shaped chocolates, gold coins, and M&M's before).  I've even seen these served at weddings, and they were a huge hit!  Talk about easy!

Here's The How:

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 egg
1 1/4 cup flour
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt

Cream the butter for 2 minutes. Add the sugars, cream for 2 more minutes. Mix in the peanut butter and egg. Mix together the dry ingredients - flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Stir into the sugar butter mixture.  Preheat oven to 350°F. Shape dough into 1 1/4 inch balls. Place about 3 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Roll in sugar (and cinnamon, if desired). Bake until light brown, 9 to 10 minutes. Cool on baking sheets for a minute; transfer to cooling rack.  Press an unwrapped Hershey's Kiss into the center of each cookie.  Let cool.  Store in an airtight container for freshest taste.

Makes about 2 dozen cookies.
For chewier cookies, bake at 300°F for 15 minutes.

Candy Topper Printables

I had a request for my Candy Toppers to be printable.  Remember to print or cut to the correct size.  You'll either have to stretch the image a little or leave a little white border on the sides, like mine.

These are full size.  Feel free to right click, save and print.  Merry Christmas!

12 Days til Christmas: Candy Packages

So, this year we are less than overflowing in our finances.  It seems that there are a lot of people in the same boat.  We didn't have a ton of money to spend on Christmas, but if I have learned one thing... ok, it would probably be something like don't put tin foil in the microwave or silence isn't always the best thing because it usually means I now have some sort of mess to clean up.  But one thing I have learned, among all those listed above, is that PRESENTATION MATTERS!

To help dress up My Mr Right's stocking candy this year (I'm really hoping he doesn't read this before Christmas, 'cause I've posted about several of his gifts...) I bought a couple bags of assorted candies, separated them out and put them in their own individual sandwich bags and sealed them up.

Then, in Photoshop, I created bag toppers.  I read the dimensions wrong on the Ziploc box, so the toppers were a little shorter than I was planning, but it still worked out ok.  I printed those off and cut them out (in the correct dimensions to fit all the way across the top of the baggie).

I then folded the toppers in half and stapled the top of the zippy baggie in between the two layers.  Now, they look a little more professionally made up, rather than just the lame two bags of assorted candies it really is.  And they have cute little love notes on them.  Everyone likes to get love notes.

There are printables HERE.
