I cleaned out my dishwasher not that long ago and it is amazing how gross it gets in there! Not the place I want to clean my dishes in. 🙂

My mom told me about the vinegar thing, but she just puts it in a bowl on the top rack. I’ll have to tell her to put it in the compartment!

you can also put a package of lemonade kool-aid in the detergent spot and run in on empty. it’s supposed to work wonders.

I never thought to clean the inside of my dishwasher. I guess I thought all the water and soap running through there was cleaning it too. I’m still kind of puzzled on that but grea post. I love the gel detergent tips. I found a great post the other day on making your own dishwasher detergent (powder) I have been making my own laundry detergent for years and it is such a money saver. I don’t have a dishwasher, but my mother in law do and I don’t think it has ever been cleaned. I will put it on my to do list for next time I go over there to clean. Thank you for the great tips, I will tell my mil.

Thanks for the tips! Powder detergents contain phosphates that aren’t good for the environment. You can help cut the film by using less gel detergent in the main dish and none in the pre-wash side.
