I guess dish soap is ok to wash dishes that we eat from as well as birds caught in an oil spill so it must be ok to wash our bodies with as well. I like sugar scrub for my face and my face easily dries out so I'll probably omit the dish soap though. Thanks for sharing you recipe.

@ Stevie & CLH: I use the sugar scrub for my body, as opposed to a facial scrub. I use the dish soap as a mild cleansing agent. You could substitute it for body wash if you prefer, or just omit it altogether. I've had better luck with the scrub not separating or sudsing in the jar with the dish soap. If you use something simple (like Dawn or Joy) with no additives, it's fairly gentle on your skin. You don't need much, just a small squirt. My shower time is super limited and being 7 months pregnant, I'm not always real quick. Especially if I'm also juggling a wet, slippery two year old. The dish soap adds the soap of body wash while eliminating a step for me.

Thanks!

Krista

I make homemade sugar and salt scrub a lot. I, too, am wondering why the dish soap? Also grapeseed oil and Sweet almond oil both are great to use for this, as well. I used to work at BBW, and they use Sweet Almond Oil in their scrubs. I just made a brown sugar/ginger/cinnamon scrub. I love it!

Great project. But can I ask, why the dish soap? Can you use something more natural like pure castile?
