Thanks for this! We are dealing with some really bad diaper rash with our almost-two-year-old from a stomach bug. I noticed the Butt Paste and Creamy Desitin have the same 40% zinc oxide, so I left the more expensive Butt Paste out to save $5.

In reply to Ashley. Thanks for sharing your secrets, Ashley! That's a great alternative and far fewer ingredients. :-) I'll have to remember that the next time I don't have our cream! My middle guy gets awful rashes too, it's the worst to not have anything to put on it. I'll have to try this next time. Thanks again!

My mom came up with her own “butt goop when my brothers were little and now I use it on my kids when needed…
Liquid antacid such as malox or mylanta and cornstarch baby powder. I mix till its think enough to stick but can still be drizzled on by a spoon that I keep in the container just for that. My daughter ends up with horrible rashes every time a new tooth/teeth start coming in…even to the point of tiny blisters. I use this stuff and its totally gone & healed in 12-24 hours. Like you said the antacids neutralize the acid and the cornstarch wicks the moisture.

No problems at all, the opposite in fact. The Mylanta helps neutralize the acidity and prevent a burning irritation to the skin. It also helps soothe any burning on raw skin. We've used the cream on both my two-year-old with sensitive skin and my 2-week-old with no problems.

The ingredients in this are very interesting. I have been looking at a home recipe for diaper creme. My only concern is the Mylanta…have you had any trouble with breakouts or a rash from this cream?
