Thankful for My Many Blessings ABC Printable

I am trying to get Little J to learn his letters. But it’s been… challenging. He has absolutely no interest in letters or numbers or learning, in general. I tried to get him to watch a Leap Frog movie the other (that Big J still loves to watch) and you would have thought I was torturing the poor boy. Like pulling fingernails kind of torture, hard core stuff. So, I’m trying to figure out more ways to engage him in learning without him realizing that’s what I’m doing. It’s Ninja Mom to the rescue…

Since it’s also November and I’m trying to remind my kids that it’s the season of gratitude, we’ve been doing a few activities that focus on what we have instead of what we want. Today, we tried this printable activity. I asked Little J what are some of the things he was thankful for and then we wrote them in the right spot with the letter it started with. Little J will also be helping me teach the rest of the family what it means to be thankful and what some of his blessing are. The rest of the family will then fill out their own ABC printable – kind of like Scattegories, but all the letters will be played at once. We will compare and see if we can get the entire alphabet filled out together.

HALLOWEEN BINGO DIRECTIONS:

DOWNLOAD AND PRINT THE GAME BOARDS

1. Print the Halloween bingo game boards from the link above. It’s a single PDF file, so there’s only one file to download. Save it to your computer then open the file. There are five different game board layouts. You will need one extra board than you have players, as you’ll use one board to create the draw pile pieces. Print off the number of game boards you need, plus one extra.

CREATING THE DRAW PILE PIECES

2. If you are going to use scrapbook paper to line the back of your Halloween Bingo draw pile pieces, use the glue stick to glue the extra game board and the scrapbook paper together. Place the papers back to back and glue.

3. Cut apart the squares on the extra board you printed. If you’re not going to laminate your boards, you are now ready to play. I chose to laminate the boards for one reason: so my kids could use dry erase markers to mark off their boards and I didn’t have to supply candy or other markers every time they wanted to play. It’s a bonus that the boards are a little more protected too.

LAMINATE FOR DURABILITY

4. Turn on your laminator and let it warm up (I use and love an older version of this laminator). Place each board inside a laminating pouch, centering it in the pouch. Place the draw pile pieces, one at a time and not touching, inside a laminating pouch. Be sure there is enough space between each piece for the pouch to seal and stay sealed once you cut the pieces apart.

5. Run the pages through the laminator, one at a time. Let cool to the touch.

6. Cut the draw pile pieces apart.

READY, SET, PLAY THE HALLOWEEN BINGO WAY!

That’s it! You’re now ready to play Halloween Bingo! It’s the perfect activity for a Halloween party, in the class room or just a fun game for a laid back afternoon with the kids.

My 18 month old had a great time drawing a card and matching it to the boards. Of course, he liked the version with candy better, but I can’t blame the boy there? He definitely got my sweet tooth.

Build a Jack-O-Lantern Printable

While He Was Napping Welcome Banner

Hey there! I’m thrilled you’re here today! Are up to your eyeballs in Halloween spirit yet?

Today, I have a fun Jack-O-Lantern printable for you. I have been trying to take more teaching moments with Little J. He doesn’t have nearly the itching desire to learn like Big J seems to and it’s been harder to take educational moments with him and it’s been frustrating.  Not to mention, I have an 18-month old who’s daily mission seems to search-and-destroy. I think he’s succeeding. Ah, well, we need to get rid of stuff before Christmas gets here anyway, right?

I Will Be Grateful For This Day Printable Quote

It’s been a long few weeks over here at the Napping Household.  Mr. Napping has been traveling with work a lot and my days have been full of boys, running errands, meetings, blogging, teaching classes, cooking dinners, working out, trying to get my house under control from the chaos that was summer and just overall craziness.  Baby N has started biting – super, right?! – and my brother-in-law dropped in for the weekend with about a day of prior notice.  Did you miss the chaos of summer part… Our guest room has been the catch-all and multi-purpose room for the last few months.  That all breaks down to my nights being much shorter than I would like them to be.  I’m sure some of you out there can relate.  I am not the only one with full and crazy days and nights with more time out of bed than I wish.

I guess you could say I’ve been a little overwhelmed and stressed.  So, by the middle of week 2 on a two-week stretch in the single parent world – kudos to those of you who do this day in and day out, you are superstars! – I wanted nothing more than to binge on an entire bag of OREO’s while my kids were in bed and then some chocolate cake… and maybe just a bit of ice cream.

I was looking through a collection of quotes I have on my phone in a Keep note and this one struck me. I will be grateful…  I needed to see it.  Repeatedly.  So, here it is in printable quotation form.  Even though the days are long and the nights are anything but, some day, I will miss this.  I will miss the giggles and the snuggles, the bedtime stories and the games.  I might even miss the toys on the floor… maybe?  Maybe not.  In any case, I don’t want to wish the days away or miss the special moments that are interspersed with the bickering and messes.  I will not miss it.  I will recognize it.  I will be grateful for the good and not dwell on the less than good.  I will be grateful for this day.  Not every day is good, but there is good in every day! …And that might have to be my next inspirational printable quote.  Click the image to get the download link and print off your own high resolution copy.

Wiggly Worms Tic-Tac-Toe and Go-Paks! Creepy Crawly Pudding Cups

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #SnackAndGo#CollectiveBias

While Big J is at school and Baby N is napping, I’ve been trying to capitalize on my time with Little J.  The differences between his and Big J’s learning styles have thrown me for a serious loop.  Big J is such a quick and easy learner.  Little J would rather climb something.  He doesn’t care how to count or what letters are in his name.  I’ve had to get creative.  One thing the boy does love is sweets.  This last week we’ve been learning about the letter W and what better way to reinforce the learning with a tasty treat?!  We made creepy crawly pudding cups, complete with wiggly worms.

WIGGLY WORMS TIC-TAC-TOE

Before I jump into the delicious pudding cups, I’ve got a couple printable activities we did to help with letter recognition, colors, sequencing and taking turns.  You can click on the image to download your own copies.

W worksheet

I had Little J help me circle all the w’s in the sentence and then we used the gummy worms to trace the large letters.  We talked about other words that start with w, specifically our last name.  And then he ate the gummy worms.

Gummy Worm Colors and Tic-Tac-Toe

A couple days later, we played a game with the leftover gummy worms.  First we matched the colors of the worms for a little color recognition practice.  Then we played tic-tac-toe with the worms.  He played with one color of worms and I played with another.  He didn’t quite get the game, but it was still fun.  Big J played when he got home and loved it.

Colors and Tic-Tac-Toe W Worksheet

Now, for Little J’s absolute most favorite part… dessert!

These are super fun snacks for any kid who loves bugs and it definitely made teaching Little J more fun and kept him engaged.  It was a little more sugar-intensive learning than I usually prefer, but… sometimes you pick your battles, I guess.  Little J at least knows what a W looks like now.  I hope.

Ready to make your own creepy crawly snack?  I grabbed all the ingredients on a recent trip to Walmart and we made our fun buggy snack. Create your own with the directions above.  This was so perfect for our study on W and the treats were enticing enough that even Little J – my boy with a .0003 second attention span, love of heights and all things mischief – was engaged through out the activity.  Total mom win.

I'm Krista. Ringleader here on While He Was Napping, wife to my handsome Mr. Right & momma to my THREE energetic boys, Big J (9), Little J (6) & Little N (4). We FINALLY added a beautiful little girl to our family last December.

I’m knee-deep in Tonka trucks & Thomas trains. I survive our crazy days with Vanilla Coke, Sonic slushies, sweet snuggles and little giggles. When I tuck them in tight & kiss them good night, I get a little time to create & just be me.
