Citrus Salad

This is quick, easy and tasty.  And the longer it sits in the fridge the more the juices mix and it’s yummy!
CITRUS SALAD

Ingredients:
– One apple
– One can of mandarin oranges
– Two navel oranges
– One can of pineapple
– 1 Tbsp lemon juice

Directions:
– Slice and cut the apple.  Then dice.
– Drain the can of mandarin oranges and pineapple.
– Peel and slice the oranges.  Then dice.
– Mix all the fruit in a bowl and serve.

* The longer you let your fruit sit, the better.  So, go ahead and make it the day before.  The citrus juices will keep your apples from browning.  Perfect for a busy date dinner in.  Sweet, healthy and refreshing.  Enjoy!

Serves 2-4

8 Anniversary Gift Ideas

My fifth wedding anniversary is tomorrow (Wow!  Five years already?!) and Mr Napping and I get to send the boys to grandma’s and spend the day together.  Yippee!

We opted this year for no gifts (haha, except some additions to the date night jar and a couple other things I’ll show you next week…), but traditionally, there are certain gifts you are supposed to give your sweetheart on the anniversary of the day you wed.  For us, it was the gift of wood…  (no comment).  We were supposed to exchange gifts made from wood.  I debated on a set of wooden bowls we’d love, but I just can’t get myself to fork over $80 for a set of bowls that my little guys will mar in no time.

But, in honor of your special day, whenever it may be, here are a few ideas for you.  Not counting up in years yet?  That’s okay.  Sometimes you don’t need a reason to give a gift.  Those are the best gifts of all.

Here’s a quick little run down on what you’re supposed to gift:
First Anniversary – Paper (Traditional) or Clocks (Modern)
Second – Cotton (T) or China (M)
Third – Leather (T) or Crystal (M)
Fourth – Flowers (T) or Linen (M)
Fifth – Wood (T) or Silverware (M)
Sixth – Iron (T) or Sugar (M)
Seventh – Wool (T) or Brass (M)
Eighth – Bronze (T) or Appliances (M)
Ninth – Pottery (T) or Leather (M)
Tenth – Tin/Aluminuim (T) or Diamond Jewelry (M)
Fifteenth – Crystal (T) or Glass (M)
Twentieth – China (T) or Platinum (M)
Twenty-fifth – Silver (T) or Sterling Silver (M)
Thirtieth – Pearl (T) or Diamond (M)
Thirty-fifth – Coral (T) or Jade (M)
Fortieth – Ruby (T&M)
Forty-fifth – Sapphire (T&M)
Fiftieth – Gold (T&M)

But rules are made to be broken!
So here are some ideas of things to get your sweetie or
things to do together, regardless of what year you’re celebrating!

FOR THE THINKER OR ART BUFF:
A Personalized Print with your wedding date on it
or a favorite quote.  Printed, framed and presented beautifully.
FOR THE WORRIER:
Pre-Planned and Pre-Paid Date Nights
like Shannon made for her hubby.
My worrier of a husband would be relieved to know that
it’s planned,
it’s paid for and
it’s happening.
FOR THE ADVENTURER:
Start crossing off your bucket list.
TOGETHER.
If you don’t have one, make one!  Pronto!

FOR THE HANDYMAN:
Design a special space in your home and
dedicate it to the two of you and your relationship
like Fawn did in her home.
FOR THE SWEET TOOTH:
Maybe not these German Chocolate Thumbprint cookies,
but his favorite goodies will always go over well.
Especially if they are homemade.

FOR THE TRAVELER:

Whisk your sweetheart off on the trip of a life time.
Ha, yeah, I can’t afford that either.
Try out this at-home date instead where
your imagination is the limit to your adventures.

FOR THE EARLY-RISERS:
This is soo NOT me, but my hubby would love it.
Get up together and go somewhere pretty.
Watch the sun rise together and share a yummy breakfast.
Get the details on putting yours together HERE.

THE GIFT LOVER:
Break your gifts up into smaller gifts.
For our third anniversary, we lived with my parents.
Yeah, yikes.  We love them, but talk about mood killer.
Oh, and our 1.5 year old slept in the walk-in closet…
So, I made a tower of gifts for Mr Napping.  They were small gifts.
– A box of his favorite candies.  – A blanket I found on clearance for $5 at Target – Some lingerie from my lingerie drawer (it didn’t get used much living with my parents…)  – A cookbook (he likes to cook)  – A gift card to a local dessert shop we like.  Stuff like that.  The look on his face when he saw this four foot tower of gifts was priceless.
Check out this idea of giving a gift each hour of the day at 30 Handmade Days!

Do you have any fun anniversary gifts?

{Project GO-FO} His & Hers Towel Hooks – Gift Idea

What’s more romantic than a hot tub full of bubbles followed by some soft, fluffy towels or bathrobes?  Well, how about grabbing those soft, warm fluffy towels off of a His & Hers towel hook set?  Mr Napping got this little baby for Christmas – okay, busted.  Basically, I wanted something cute to replace our single towel bar in the Master bathroom.  I’m a two-toweler and we just didn’t have enough towel hooks to meet our bathroom needs.  It was super easy and looks great in our natural-themed bathroom (well, it will be natural-themed… if I ever get it done………………..)  This would be really cute scaled down and made into a key hook… just an idea.  If you run with it, I want to see photos!

HIS & HERS
TOWEL HOOKS

Materials:
– Board(s) – I used a scrap piece of 1″x12″ oak that was about 6″ long.
– “His” vinyl and “Hers” vinyl
– 2 Hooks with screws
– Stain or paint/sealer (optional)
– Drill with drill bits
– Screwdriver or screwdriver bits for the drill

*In my rush to finish this for Christmas, I failed to take process photos.  I’m sorry.  If you have questions, let me know and I’ll do my best to clear things up.  Hopefully, it’s pretty simple.

Directions:
–  Because I used a piece of oak scrap, I didn’t need to stain or paint my board.  It was already finished.  If you used something else and you want to stain or paint the board, do so now.  Let it dry thoroughly.
–  Apply the vinyl “His” and “Hers” decals.  Play around with placement to find what layout you like the best. If you opt to use two boards, do one on each board, obviously.  Make sure there will be adequate room for the towel hooks and the towels to hang and dry.  I didn’t want to cover up any of my vinyl with the towels so I went with an off-set layout for my hooks.
–  Decide on the layout of you hooks as well, but don’t attach them yet.  When you find a layout you like, stick down the vinyl.  If you want to apply a sealer, do so now.  Let it dry completely.
–  Lay down your hooks again and  mark the holes for the screws.  Drill small holes where you marked.
–  Sink your screws and tighten down the hooks.

You will need a way to attach the board(s) to your wall.  I opted to just attach the boards to the walls with screws.  I located studs in the walls and then sunk two screws into each board to secure them.  You could also put a sawtooth picture hanger or a wire hanger on the back and then put them on the wall with nails or cute little cup hooks or something.  If you personalize this project, I’d love to see how.  Towel hooks for your kids would be super cute!

{Project GO-FO} Styling Tool Storage

So, maybe you remember the Mason Jar Organizer I made last May?  No?  How about now?  Still no?  Well, go check it out…  I’ll wait.
Anyways, now that we are in our new house, this little baby needed a new home.  I didn’t want it behind the toilet in our main bath because it is also the kid’s bathroom.  Also, I want to put a little more intense storage solution in there and I’m still working on that…  In our Master bath, we have quite a bit of storage space and didn’t really need this.
I didn’t have a storage solution for my hair styling tools though… or did I?
MASON JAR & PIPE CLAMP
HAIR STYLING TOOL STORAGE

Materials:
– 1×4″ board in your choice of length.  Mine is about 24 inches long.
– Paint
– 1/2″ screws
– Pipe Clamps (I think they were size 36)
– Paint or wood stain (optional)
– Sawtooth picture hangers or 3″ screws
– Mason Jars (or knock offs)

Directions:
1.  Paint or stain your wood if you’d like.
2.  Use the 1/2″ screws to attach the pipe clamps to the board.
3.  Attach your picture hangers to the board or locate the studs in the wall and use the 3″ screws to attach the board to the wall.
4.  Tighten your jars into the pipe clamps.

It’s pretty easy and fairly basic.  As you can see, I modified the original design a bit… I took one pipe clamp and jar off the board completely.  Then I lined the pipe clamp that holds my hair dryer with felt to keep it from scratching up the plastic on my hair dryer.  Just hot glue a strip of felt inside the pipe clamp all the way around.  The cord tucks through and is out of reach of my incessantly grabby toddler.  The jars hold my “hot sticks” (as my preschooler calls them), the curling iron and the flat iron.  I love that I can drop them in the jars and I don’t have to worry about them warping the counter or melting combs or anything like that.  They are up and out of reach and can safely cool off in the glass jars.  This DIY project turned re-purpose has been a success for the last seven months and I don’t intend to change it any time soon.

I'm Krista. Ringleader here on While He Was Napping, wife to my handsome Mr. Right & momma to my THREE energetic boys, Big J (9), Little J (6) & Little N (4). We FINALLY added a beautiful little girl to our family last December.

I’m knee-deep in Tonka trucks & Thomas trains. I survive our crazy days with Vanilla Coke, Sonic slushies, sweet snuggles and little giggles. When I tuck them in tight & kiss them good night, I get a little time to create & just be me.
