Weekend Wander #106

Sorry I missed the party last weekend.  We had a little Christmas party at our house last Friday and I was so busy cleaning and decorating that I completely spaced it until like midnight on Saturday.  And Little Monkey came down with croup during the party (awesome, right?).  And I was finishing up some Etsy orders so they would ship in time for Christmas… so, I didn’t bother with the linky.  I had other things on my mind.  The good news is that we now, FINALLY, have some pictures on our walls and the row of boxes that were sitting in our dining room for the past six (eek, did I just admit that?!) months, are now… well, they are just in the garage.  But at least they aren’t sitting in the dining room anymore.  Right?!  Baby steps, baby steps.

And, speaking of baby steps, Little Gator took his first steps last week too!  Beat his brother by five days.  The day before he turned 10 months, he took a little stroll stumble to mommy.  It was one of those moments when the graham cracker mush in my hair and the toys all over the floor are totally, 100%, completely worth it.  Pure joy and elation.  I love being a mom.

Anyway, what have you been up to?  Let’s get this party started, shall we?!  Really quick…  some features!

Connie continues to WOW.
Check out her activity binder for the kiddos.
We have something similar for Little Monkey to do when I’m busy with Gator.
It’s a life saver!  I definitely recommend setting something like this up for kids.

How gorgeous are these glass trees?
I will definitely have to add something like this to my to-do list.
For next year.
I Love this fabric wreath!  Jessica did an awesome job.
I will admit that my wreath is a concoction of Dollar Tree findings.
That I made before I had children…
I  itch to make a new one… maybe next year.

What’s new?  Show me whatcha got!  Annnnd… GO!

Jingle Bells Subway Art Printables

Happy Holidays, everyone!  How’s the Christmas shopping going?  Or Hanukkah or Kwanzaa or whatever holiday you may be celebrating.  I’m beyond excited that I’m done with the shopping part… now just madly trying to get all the gifts assembled.  I’m beginning to wonder how wise it was to start the PJ pants from Mom on Christmas Eve tradition……. ah, well.

Anyway, these little goodies went up at Lil Luna last week (my last post there!  It’s been fun, but I feel like I need to get my life a little more under control before I commit content to such a big blog again.  It’s too much stress!).  I wanted to share them here too, in case you missed it then.

I was super excited to get to post in December.  I love Christmastime and designing for the holidays.  Since I’ve already done a good couple handfuls of holiday printables, I was a little stumped on what to do.  But, I think I came to a great conclusion!  I love the way these turned out and I hope you can find some way to incorporate them into your holidays.  Christmas cards, home decor, gift wrap… just a few ideas.

Holiday Gift Guide {The Tweens & Teens}

I have a 12 year-old sister.  She’s a different kind of tween girl though.  She has been a tomboy most of her life, wants skateboards instead of make-up and her favorite color has always been orange.  The one year I gave her some clothes for Christmas, you’d have thought I gave her rocks… no, wait, she probably would have like those.  Gah!  She is so hard to gift for.  Can I get some pity…?  Ha, okay, pity party over.

So, at the age where they stop wanting the inexpensive toys and games and start begging for cell phones, iPads and laptops, what do you get these picky kids?  Well, here are a few of my ideas… and you don’t need a money tree in the backyard!

1.  Nail Care Basket.  At the age when make-up is the hot new thing, make your young giftee feel all grown up.  I’ll admit to gifting this particular gift idea more than once in the past year.  Gifting to a young man?  Instead of polish and nail stickers, give body sprays, hair gel, deodorant and the like.

2.  Cash and candy.  You simply CAN NOT go wrong with this gift.  Seriously.  Who wouldn’t want cash and candy?!  Last year, my teen niece wanted cash and Coke.  She got it and was thrilled.  Like, all-her-dreams-came-true kind of thrilled.  But, take it a step further and check out the cute packaging over at Simply J Studio.

3.  Books.  Okay, maybe your teen won’t be jumping for joy, but books are always a good gift.  Play to their personality.  Get suggestions from Mom and Dad if you want some guidance.  Not sure if the book will ever get opened?  Try an audio book.

4.  Has your teen recently gotten their driver’s permit/license?  This gift would go over the best if they also have their own car (as in a car they primarily drive and care for), otherwise it might be seen as a gift more for Mom and Dad than themselves.  Martha Stewart‘s got the details on putting this car wash kit together.
5.  Here’s one for the guys:  Dart board.  Okay, double check this with his parents, but throwing darts can be a great stress-reliever.  Maybe invest in a corkboard to hang behind it as well.  You’ll be glad (or at least his parents will) when there are a few less holes in the wall.  Or include a tube of Spackle with your gift.
6.  One more for the guys.  A pull up bar.  Another great way to work out some stress or any other crazy teenage hormones and it doesn’t hurt to build a little muscle either.  These are pretty compact and easy to install.
7.  Clothes.  Or a gift card for clothes.  Each kid is different on terms of style and things they will wear.  Between peer pressure and constantly changing fads and trends, it may be easier to let your teen choose their own threads.  Or go with something simple and easily returnable.
8.  Jewelry.  Something pretty, but inexpensive is best.  An item that easily coordinates with many outfits and won’t be a huge loss if it does, in fact, get lost.  Also, consider the materials an item of jewelry is made from.  No one wants to give an allergic reaction in a box, right?  Acrylic or wooden beads and natural cording is always a good idea.
9.  For the ladies, a flat iron case.  Heat-resistant and everything.  The best part… it’ll cost you a buck and maybe two hours, max.  This little gem is great for traveling and those pre-prom hair parties.  Or try the curling iron case instead (or do both!).
10.  Last, but absolutely not least, music.  As a teen, I LIVED for music.  At least it seemed that way.  It was always on.  In my room and the car and any other place I could manage it.  However, like clothes, every kid likes different music.  If unsure about taste, give the gift of choice with a gift card.

Weekend Wander #105

Welcome to the party, my friends!  I hope you’ve had an awesome week full of all kinds of Holiday cheer and fun!  We finally have the tree up (it only took us a week to get it up and decorated…)!  It was slow going when I could only do about an hour at a time to keep my kiddos from making a bigger mess than I already was.  Little Monkey also watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the original cartoon from 1966) and someone has a new favorite Christmas movie!

Real quick, here’s a few features from last week!

How cute are these sheet music trees?!  Rachel at Holy Craft has all the details!

These scripture Ornaments at Family Home and Life are easy and pretty.
My fave combo!  Awesome Job, Connie!
Quick and Easy is just what I need this time of year!
Barb at Second Chance to Dream is totally rocking me world right now!

I have been trying to find bathroom storage ideas for our Master bath since we moved in.  Margo at Joyful Homemaking has found a fabulous solution.  Gorgeous.
Thank you to everyone who linked up.  Featured?  You can grab a button to display if you’d like.  And, now… Link ’em UP!  Annnd…….. GO!

Chocolate Christmas Popcorn

I hope your holiday hustle and bustle is going well and that you are getting things crossed off your to-do list faster than I’m crossing things off mine!

On Sunday, the activity from our advent calendar was a “Surprise Christmas Movie Box”.  Basically, we had popcorn, bubbly juice, candy and watched “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”.  The original one.  My three-year-old would die if I tried to make him sit through a two hour Jim Carrey movie.

For our popcorn we made what we affectionately call “Christmas Crack”.  It’s super simple, but completely addicting!  I mean, chocolate and popcorn… I don’t know if you could really mess that up.  It’s awesome for get togethers, because it’s super easy to make a ton and feed lots of people.  Or to eat all yourself.  Whatever.  Or maybe share with the neighbors.  Or maybe not.

CHOCOLATE CHRISTMAS POPCORN

The Best Christmas Popcorn is made with only 4 ingredients and takes less than 20 minutes to make!
Ingredients:
– 2.5 cups unpopped corn kernels
– 2 cups milk chocolate chips (you could use dark or semi-sweet chips too)
– 2 cups mint chips
– 14 Peppermint Kisses, unwrapped
Directions:
–  Pop the corn according to directions.  We prefer to pop it in an air popper.  Spread popped corn in a large baking sheet.
–  Put half of the chocolate and mint chips and the Kisses in separate, microwave-safe containers.
–  Heat the chocolate and mint chips and the Kisses in 20 second increments in the microwave.  Stir every 20 seconds.  Heat until nearly melted and then stir to melt the rest of the way.  Be careful not to scald your chocolate.
–  Use the long end of a spoon to dip into your chocolate and drizzle about half the melted chocolate over your popcorn.  Be generous.
–  Let stand until chocolate re-hardens.  We stick ours in the garage for about 15 minutes or so.
–  Gently turn popcorn, melt the other half of the chips and drizzle over the turned popcorn.  Let set again.
–  Gently turn the popcorn once again and break up the chocolate a little.  Pour into a bowl and serve!
Serves approximately 6
 ChristmasCrack
Happy Holidays!

I'm Krista. Ringleader here on While He Was Napping, wife to my handsome Mr. Right & momma to my THREE energetic boys, Big J (9), Little J (6) & Little N (4). We FINALLY added a beautiful little girl to our family last December.

I’m knee-deep in Tonka trucks & Thomas trains. I survive our crazy days with Vanilla Coke, Sonic slushies, sweet snuggles and little giggles. When I tuck them in tight & kiss them good night, I get a little time to create & just be me.
