{October Spooktacular} Halloween Ideas

These are Halloween projects I want to do… but, I’m not sure if they will happen just yet.  Gator is sick at the moment and sick babies can push an already-exhausted momma over the edge.  Basically, I’m in survival mode at the moment.  So… here’s all the stuff I wish I had the energy to do…

Happenings of the Harper Household

A Bushel & A Peck

Rook No. 17
Little Monkey seems fairly set on being a “scaretch-crow” this year…

Perpetual Kid

AliLilly

Our Best Bites
Little Monkey loves hot dogs.  And bread.  But he won’t eat them together.
Maybe I’ll have to make them for me some time…

{Printable} Halloween Party Pack Sampler

This originally posted last week at Lil Luna, but in case you missed it… it’s here as well:

Hi again, Lil Luna Friends!  And Welcome Autumn!  What a fun time of year: the colors in the trees, the cute boots and sweaters, the smell of apples, cinnamon and pumpkin.  And Halloween!  I really do enjoy Fall and I’m usually not too sad to see summer fade out.  Besides, cooler temperatures are always welcome in the hot desert heat.  Unfortunately, the weather here is just teasing me.  We’ve had a few cooler days; but, for the most part, it’s still nice and sunny.  But, never fear, I didn’t let that distract me from designing some fun Halloween goodies. Got a Halloween party coming up?  Check these cuties out:

Enjoy your party with a little help in the preparation department.  These are all designed as print-at-home files.  There are four styles of water bottle or soda can wrappers, 24 different cupcake toppers, and a “Happy Halloween” bunting.  Bright and cheery, with a touch of the spooky.

To Use:  Download the zip file HERE.  {You will need to have a 4shared account in order to download.  Don’t worry, they are free and easy to use.  I like the support from 4shared and they are reliable and user-friendly.  I feel that is worth registering for an account and using their service.}

After you have the file saved to your computer, right click and choose “Extract Here”.  Your files will unzip and you can select multiple files to print at one time.  Print out the images.  I suggest using a thick cardstock.

To construct the bunting, you can use several methods.  First begin by cutting the pennants apart.  You can  then use a sewing machine and stitch the pennants together in the right order.  Or use a couple dots of hot glue on each pennant and attach each one to a fancy ribbon.  Or use a small piece of tape or sticky tack to individually tack each pennant to the wall or any other surface.

Making the cupcake toppers is an easy task.  Use a 2-inch round hole punch and punch out each topper.  Or use scissors and trim out each topper.  Use two toppers, back to back, for each cupcake.  Place a small skewer or a craft stick between the two topper punch outs.  Secure with glue or a piece of double stick tape.  When you print your cupcake toppers, the two sheets will make enough toppers for one dozen cupcakes.

The beverage wrappers are a simple print, cut and paste.  Print out however many labels you need for your project.  Cut out the labels and secure each around a beverage with a strip of hot glue or a small piece of tape.

That’s it.  Piece of cake (or pumpkin bread!) and you’re three little details closer to an awesome party.  Enjoy!

You can find lots of Halloween printables in my Etsy shop.

Halloween Countdown Printable Calendar

So, I’m only a mere ten days late with this one… but that’s my life.  A dollar short (or lots of dollars) and a day late (or ten days)…  So, if you don’t mind starting off a little late – better late than never, right? – then here is a printable countdown for you. Otherwise, save it for next year.

HALLOWEEN COUNTDOWN PRINTABLE CALENDAR

I printed ours out on cardstock and then cut three sides of each of the numbered date boxes with a craft knife so they lift up like tabs.  I had to line up the pages and use a little tape to keep them that way, but you can’t see it, so no big deal.  I put it in a cheap dollar store frame, removed the glass and it’s hanging in our work-in-progress family command center.

Little Monkey thinks it’s the best thing ever.  He has been totally obsessed with the calendar and counts how many more days til Halloween every day.  Every single one.  At least once.  Ah, well… at least he’s excited.  And it has been giving me ideas for things to do with him.  Some times that is the very hardest part.

Download the watermark-free Numbered Dates Page HERE and the Activity Calendar HERE.  I did them separately so you don’t have to download the activities if your kids are a little beyond them.  I tailored mine to a three-year-old, since that’s what I’m dealing with here.  Check out Pinterest for more or older kid activities and use a blank page to write in the activities under your flaps.
Higher quality prints are available in my Etsy shop as an instant download.  Get it now!  Your files will be ready for download as soon as you submit your payment!  No waiting.  Happy Haunting!

{October Spooktacular} Nailed It!

I had originally intended to give a little tutorial on a Halloween-themed pedicure for this post… and then I realized “I have kids.”   A little slow there on that realization, right?  Ha.  Ha.  So, after I spent two days working on this pedicure and realizing it looks like I dropped a couple bottles of Halloween-colored paint on the feet, I opted against that.  Okay, it’s not quite that much of a wreck, but “hot mess” definitely applies in this case.

THIS is my Hot Mess… and commence uproarious laughter.  It’s okay, you have permission.  I’m sure this should be on Pinstrocity or Craft Fail (don’t know what those are = Google it.  But only if you have an hour and a nice strong bladder.  You’ll be ROFL, literally.  It’s hysterical that the image isn’t even in focus… total FAIL.  I’m going to blame that on my kids too.  I’m not even bothering to watermark the image; because, if you want to steal it, go right ahead… It’ll probably do me a favor to not have my name attached to it… haha.

Good call on not doing that tutorial… am I right?!  So, instead… I thought I’d give you a look at what possibilities you ‘could’ do.  Now, of course, you can’t do half of these yourself – especially if you have kids that think it’s not a big deal to make you get them things (like lunch and snacks, darn kids) while you’re trying to paint your nails… but it’s nice to dream every once in a while and admire other’s work.

Pinning Disclaimer: {I searched Pinterest and found all these images there; but, because I’m awesome, I actually tracked down the original posts these photos appear in.  Do you know how many pins went back to the original photos?  Not a SINGLE ONE.  So… because these nail artists deserve the props – and because I took the time to track them down – if you wish to pin any of these fantastic photos, please visit the source site and pin from there.  You can find the sources by clicking the photos or the ‘Source’ link below each photo.  Thanks!}

Because, why not start at completely outlandish?!  Check these babies out.  They look like they should be on display in a nail studio window or something.  There is no waay you could ever do… well, anything, with nails like that.  But, they are totally stunning and incredibly cool.

These glitter toxic slime nails are very awesome… and, dare I say, even doable for a normal person.  Scotch tape can do amazing things.  And, personally, I love the touch of glitter.  Tones down the “eww” but leaves the “eek” completely intact.
Source
Nail Stamps… now, maybe I’m living under a I-can’t-afford-to-have-cute-nails-because-my-kid-needs-diapers rock, but that’s something I hadn’t heard of yet.  I find that to be a very nifty idea indeed.  And I am loving this spider web stamp.  Awesome.

This was the idea I started going for on my pedicure… and made it as far as my entire two big toes (that’s all everyone else has too, right?).  I have these teeny tiny little slivery nails on my pinky toes and decided there was no way to visibly get three colors on that little sliver.  But I still think the candy corns are neat.  And they make me hungry…
Source
These glowing cat eyes definitely have a creepy factor.  They leave me speechless… so just bask in these for a few seconds… oooohh.
Source
And, if you’ve been around here for very long, you know that I am a word art fiend.  I love it and this version is no different.  Annnnd….. they are decals, so with the help of a friend (or reluctant, but loving hubby) anyone can do this.  Not sure I could make myself shell out the $15, but cute nonetheless.

I'm Krista. Ringleader here on While He Was Napping, wife to my handsome Mr. Right & momma to my THREE energetic boys, Big J (9), Little J (6) & Little N (4). We FINALLY added a beautiful little girl to our family last December.

I’m knee-deep in Tonka trucks & Thomas trains. I survive our crazy days with Vanilla Coke, Sonic slushies, sweet snuggles and little giggles. When I tuck them in tight & kiss them good night, I get a little time to create & just be me.
