Summer Bucket List

While I don’t plan on kicking the bucket after this summer, there are some things I would like to get done.  Activities with my boys, craft projects, home improvement projects, places we want to visit… ect.  Hopefully, my Pinterest boards can be more than just vast collections of pretty pictures.  I color-coded the activities so I could make sure we didn’t focus too much on the boring stuff and that we had a lot of family activities planned and fun things to do.  Summer is supposed to be fun after all…  Here it is, our bucket list:

If you’d like a blank template to create your own bucket list (or to let your kiddos create one), click on the image below, then right click and “save as”.  Save to your computer and then print it off.  Enjoy!

Bow Tie Onesies

So, WAAAY back in January my friend had an adorable little boy.  And I was in need of a gift for this little guy.  I did some sitting on my thinking chair, put on my thinking cap and then tried both at once and finally came up with an idea.  I was still pregnant with Little Gator and got about 15 seconds to myself in the day still (unlike now… they never coordinate anything) so I whipped this little baby up.

It was fairly simple and didn’t take a ton of time, which is always good in my book.  I’m an A.D.D. crafter and even if I have the attention span required, my boys usually need something before I get finished.

Supplies:
– Scissors
– Felt
– Needle
– Thread
– Snap or Velcro
– Onesie or other shirt (or headband or alligator clip or hair elastic or whatever you want to attach your bow to.)

1.  Cut a rectangle from your felt approximately 3 inches wide and about 4 inches tall.  Cut a small strip of felt about .5 inch thick and about 2 inches tall.
2.  Fold the rectangle accordion-style about three times to make the bow.  Remember folding fans when you were younger (or when you’re sitting in church and it’s like a thousand degrees and, for some reason, the heater keeps kicking on… yeah, those fans), it’s just like that.
3.  Take the small strip of felt and wrap it around the middle of your fan-folded felt.  Cut off any excess felt from the strip.
4.  Take the needle and thread and stitch the ends of the skinny strip together to hold it around the middle of your fan.  Be sure to secure well.
5.  Stitch your snap or velcro to the back of the bow, over the stitches you just made to hold the skinny strip in place.  Make sure your snap faces the right way and will still attach to the other side once it’s sewn to the onesie (or what have you).  It’s good to make sure the velcro is going the correct way as well, although this is a little more obvious.
6.  Stitch the other side of the snap or velcro to your onesie (or whatever).  Attach the bow to your shirt and ta-da.  You’ve got one snazzy little bow tie onesie that any little dude will look totally fabulous in.

/>

** If you opt for an alligator clip, you can hot glue or stitch it to the back of you bow after step 4.  Disregard the remaining steps.

You can purchase pre-made bow ties from my Etsy shop.  It doesn’t take long, but if hand-sewing isn’t your thing, let me do the work for you.  Bulk orders receive discounts.  Unfortunately, you have to sew the snap on yourself… patents and all that legal garbage, but I will include them in your order if you’d like.

Creamy Potato Soup

Is this soup good? Well, let me tell you a few things and then you can decide. So, it’s 80ºF outside and I made soup… Also, it’s 80ºF outside and I made soup FROM SCRATCH. That means I heated my house with the oven and the stove. But you know what? This Creamy Potato Soup was TOTALLY. WORTH. IT.

But that’s not all. My toddler cleaned his bowl. He’s not a terribly picky eater; but, if you have a toddler or have ever tried to feed one, you know that eating everything in their bowl at dinner time is kinda a BIG DEAL. It’s gotta be good stuff for that to happen.

Oh, and, we ate dinner twice.  For real.  Twice.  Not “we had seconds”, but “we ate dinner twice.” I had even put it away in the fridge and we had to reheat it to eat again. I had to cook more bacon, which I truthfully don’t enjoy.

And lastly, it freezes AMAZINGLY! So, you tell me… Do you think this is good soup and worth a try?

Creamy Potato Soup

Prep time:  1 hour 15 mins

Cook time:  1 hour

Total time:  2 hours 15 mins

Serves: 6-8 Servings

A delicious, hearty, creamy soup that will fill you up and warm you up on those chilly winter evenings.
Ingredients
  • 6 medium red potatoes
  • 4-6 pieces of bacon or ½ cup bacon bits
  • 1 yellow onion
  • ½ cup Velvetta cheese cubes
  • 6 cups of Chicken Broth
  • 3 cups of milk
  • 1 Tbs garlic powder
  • 1 Tbs parsley flakes
  • 2 tsp celery salt
  • Shredded cheddar cheese
  • Sour Cream
Instructions
  1. Bake your potatoes in the oven at 400 degrees for 45 minutes to an hour or until they are tender, but not mushy.
  2. Dice up your onions and saute them in a large pot with a small amount of butter. Once the onions are sauteed, add your chicken broth and turn the stove to low heat.
  3. Cook up your bacon and blot the grease off with paper towels. Break or cut into little pieces (skip this step if you are substituting bacon bits).
  4. Peel the potato skins off and mash the potatoes. For a thicker soup, mash the potatoes to the consistency of mashed potatoes. For a chunkier soup, leave large pieces of potato unmashed. Add mashed potatoes to the chicken broth.
  5. Turn the stove back up to medium heat. Add in the milk and stir together.
  6. When you have a consistent mixture, add in the Velvetta cheese cubes. Melt the cheese cubes and stir until evenly mixed.
  7. Dip soup into bowls and top with shredded cheddar cheese, bacon pieces and sour cream.

Weekend Wander #85

Gosh, sorry I didn’t post much (at all) this week.  My Mr. Right was out of town for work and I had my hands more than full with the two boys (neither of which will sleep… lucky me), still trying to unpack (why, oh why, do we have so much stuff!?!) and I still don’t have our Father’s Day gifts done… EEK!  And we have a family reunion coming up that I will be solo packing all four of us for.  Awesome, right?  Right.  Not to mention, my Monday from hell.  Just a brief little peek into that: doctors, waiting rooms with no air conditioning, super long wait times, exhausted baby, waking the baby from his only nap of the day to give him shots (thanks a bunch, guys!), the horrendous parking lot at the pediatrician, a toddler who won’t nap, a toddler who runs away, a neighbor who calls the cops, the grossest dirty diaper ever, toddler flashing the cops, and no one sleeps all night long…  Jealous?  Like I said, Monday from hell.   Typically, I’m not one for such strong language, but I kept thinking that there was no way the day could get worse… and then it did… over and over and over and over again.  Not all major disasters, but it sure seemed like they all were at the time.  Ok, so there’s my excuses.

And, for now, I’m suspending features.  If I get a chance I’ll throw them in, but I’m hoping to start featuring more of you on Facebook and Twitter.  And I’m tired of constantly apologizing for not doing them.  So, I’ll just lower your expectations instead.  =)  Alright you party people, link ’em up!

don’t forget to enter the Say It On The Wall giveaway!  Low entries and there will be TWO winners!!
