Guest Post: Bella Before & After

Today we have a super special treat!  Bella @ Bella Before & After is here to say hello!  She is such a sweetie and has an awesome blog.  I LOVE meeting new friends in the blogosphere, people I would have met no other way.  Bella is one of those people that I’ve been lucky to meet, so here she is:

Hello While he was Napping readers, I’m so happy to be here today. Thanks Krista for letting me say hi to your readers.

My name is Bella ~ Isabella~ and I am the one behind the blog:
Photobucket
I started on this blogging journey in August of 2010. After being a SAHM for 12 years, it started getting to me. I needed something to call my own, other than my kids, lol. Getting a job, unfortunately is out of the question for now, as my kids need me WAY to much, even more so as they get older. Plus being mommy is my number one joy, and duty in life, right now.

I am Romanian, born in Transylvania, came to the U.S. when I was just a baby, lived in California for a good 20 years, (Orange County) and now live in the south (sigh) with my husband who is from India, and 3 kiddos, who range in age from almost 12 to almost 4, with an almost 7 princess in the middle. I love to cook, and have learned quite a lot of Indian food, of course Romanian food, and I grew up loving Mexican food. I like to blog about food, and share recipes with my readers. I’m particularly passionate about organic, non processed home cooked meals.

Some HOT Kerala Indian fish curry, Bella style!!

Some crazy good BRICK Chicken!!

Savarine, a delicious Romanian pastry!!

Did I mention we make cakes too?
You can check us out on Facebook, for more cake designs!!
EURO STYLE CAKES on FACEBOOK

I also love to craft, and love to create, and LOVE to save money, and hopefully save the earth a little too, by trying to reuse things I already have, and upcycle other peoples trash. My most favorite kind of craft involves recycling products, and not spending money.

Contact paper is AWESOME!!

Come see how I grow my own pineapple plant.

Trying to organize my pantry, at least it’s clean now, hehe.

The girls and I love doing mehndi for fun.

Check out how I created a flower bed for my garden.
I also host a weekly party called
Photobucket
I’ve worked really hard at redesigning my blog so I can FEATURE my top 10 every week, on my SIDEBAR, the whole week. It’s a great way to be seen, by the masses, hehe ( I wish), but ONE day, I will be big, and you will BEG to be featured on my blog. Until then I do it happily and love helping out new bloggers, because after all, I’m still learning myself, and support is key to growth.

I love all my followers, and have made some wonderful friends, bloggy friends, and look forward to getting to know you too.

So come on over and see how I clean my stove with my shampoo!

And check out how I cut MY OWN HAIR!

I really hope you enjoyed my post today! I loved sharing with you.

Come say hi to me on facebook, or twitter!!
Don’t forget to join me at my weekly party.
AMAZE ME AUGUST

Thanks Krista for having me, I had so much fun!

Thanks for coming Bella, I’m so glad you did.  Now, you need to head over to Bella Before & After and check out all her awesome stuff!

Hoppy Easter Printables

A colorful way to celebrate Easter!  You didn’t think I wouldn’t make Easter printables, did you?  I would never disappoint like that.  In fact, I added a fun, little extra at the bottom.  Make sure you grab it too.  As always, I’d love to see any projects you do with these.

Click the individual links to be taken to the 4shared URLs.  If you have any problems with 4shared, email me and I’ll send you back a copy of the ones you want (make sure you include which ones you’d like).

Weekend Wander #26

Ok, so I have a couple features this week.  Make sure you check them out.  They are pretty cool…

Bethany at Sweet Bee Buzzings has a great collection of Easter Crafts:

Christina at It’s a Keeper shared a delicious looking Chicken Cobbler Casserole:
Chicken Cobbler Casserole

Cheri at Cheri Quite Contrary has a great tutorial for making your own light box!  This is definitely a wonderful thing to have to get those great pictures!

And check out these ca-ute (and edible!) bird’s nests Crystal at A Pumpkin and a Princess shares:

Thanks everyone who linked up!  The featured button is in the side bar for those of you that were featured.  And it’s one of my Photobucket images that still actually shows up, so grab it and run!  =]

Now, on to the party!  Link up whatever you would like, as long as it’s family friendly.  Link as many times as you’d like.  Please no commercial sites.  By linking, you are giving me permission to use your photos and projects in a feature that will, of course, link back to your original post.  Only one photo will be used and credit will be given to you.  Let’s get this party started!

Guest Post: Mommy Does

Hey There, My Friends!  Today I have a great lady to introduce you to:  Brooke Anna at Mommy Does.  She’s so much fun!

Hi there While He Was Napping readers!
My name is Brooke Anna, and this is my fiancée “B”!
I blog over at Mommy Does…

I have two precious Little Ones…
Little Boy

And Little Girl

I’m so happy to be here Guest Posting for Krista and
I was so excited that she accepted my offer to do so.
For the life of myself I couldn’t decide what to write about…
I know that I could post all pictures, but what fun is that? I know that I could write endlessly about my two little ones, full-time college and SAHM careers.
But I’m sure you know what changing diapers is like,
bath-time, nap-time and all that jazz?
See, I knew you did!

Would you like to know a bit about me before we get down to business?
I’m 23. Born and raised in Vernon Parish Louisiana, Leesville mostly.
I have been with my children’s father since our Senior year of high school, going on 6 years!
I love sunflowers, books, music, movies, and spending time with my family.
I’m closest with my Nuderma (Grandmother.)
I love The Good Wife, and any movie with Morgan Freeman.
My favorite?
‘Lean on Me.’
I played the french horn for 11 just at 12 years.
And loved it!

Now! That’s enough about me… let’s get to business.
I’m here today to share how I make bows for Little Girl!

{Budget Boutique Bow How-To}
I’m not perfect.
I like to save money.
I like to craft.
I like to create things that I otherwise would not be able to afford, or justify spending money on.

Plus, I’m not perfect.
So, if you are wanting to make perfect boutique hair-bows this is not for you.
However, if you like the make pretty things without spending a bunch of money,
this tutorial is right up your ally.
I don’t go all out with feathers
(not my thing, little girl has a head full of hair and this brings enough attention.)
I like to add simple, cheap embellishments though.

Supplies Needed:
*Ribbon of choice
(Grosgrain, satin, print, no print, whatever you want or have)
I chose a lady bug grosgrain print from Micheal’s
a bubble gum pink grosgrain from Dollar Tree
And a red with pink heart print floral ribbon from Dollar Tree.
What? Yes,
DOLLAR TREE.
(I needed a ribbon for Little Girl’s  upcoming Ni Hao, Kai Lan party.)
* Thin ribbon to line clips.
*Embroidery floss or thin grosgrain
*Lighter or fray check
*Pencil or those washable pencils for sewing
*Jumbo Salon clip
*French barrettes or alligator clips or headbands
*Ruler, yard tape/ruler
*Embellishments
To begin…
1.  Cut your ribbon to desired length. I cut all three ribbons to 24 inches (be sure to measure even lengths.) To make a double stack I cut another 12 inch length of the floral ribbon. You can also cut a length of each to make your center knot now to save time later.
2.  Now fold each length of ribbon in half.

3.  And press down like so…

4.  This should have made enough of a crease for you to mark exactly in the middle of the length of ribbon with your pencil.

5.  Now, keeping the printed side of the ribbon faced outwards loop around like so, in the middle of the line you marked.
Do the same for the other half…
6.  Now using your finger, push the bottom half to the middle like so…

7.  Doe the same for the top half. It should look something like this…

8.  Clip the jumbo salon clip into the middle, being sure to clip it with the underside of the clip facing up.

9.  Now cut a length of your embroidery floss to thread through and bring back up through the clip. It should look like this…

10.  I could take a picture of the next step, but “cinch” the ribbon by pulling each end of the string tight (I’m southern excuse my accent.) It should look like this…

11.  Now look at the bow and make adjustments where you see fit. Try not to pull it too much or you’ll risk undoing all your pain-staking work… haha.

12.  Take apart your barrette and dab hot glue on to it…
13.  Place the barrette directly in the middle of the bows back like this…

14.  Dab a bit of glue onto the barrettes inside and tie the embroidery floss in a double knot. Snip excess.

It should look like these two pictures. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Trust me, I can pick out all the flaws mine has.
15.  Now squeeze a bit of hot glue onto the middle of the top and apply your center knot. Like so…

16.  Hot glue the ends of the center knot’s ribbon to cover the embroidery floss glued knotted to the back.
Now you can line that with the thin ribbon. I didn’t line the top before gluing and knotting the bow down, my bad! You can if you want, but this bow was large enough you can’t see the metal from the barrette.

17.  Now reassemble the barrette, and embellish the middle. I chose to use a little lady bug from a pack I found at a yard sale.

Thank you all for taking time out of your day to read my tutorial!
I hope you enjoyed it and
I hope you all have a great time creating bows for the little girls in your life!

I’m not perfect, and neither are my creations.
They make me happy, save my family money, and I enjoy sharing them with you all!

Here are how the others turned out…

Do you like Little Girl’s Minnie Mouse barrette?
Need a tutorial?
Oh!
You like that Brown Flower headband?
That tutorial is
here!

Isn’t she fun?!?  Head over and check out all the other great stuff going on!  Thanks for visiting today, it was great to have you, Brooke Anna!

Guest Post: Mama Smiles

Today’s I have a very awesome lady to introduce you to.  She has all kinds of cool stuff, from kid’s projects to sewing to parenting and family life.  For a great one-stop shop, check out MaryAnne at Mama Smiles.  MaryAnne is here today to share a little bit about herself and her awesome blog.  Take it away, MaryAnne!
mama smiles
Hi! I’m MaryAnne, the mama behind the mama smiles, and I'm thrilled to be able to write a guest post for While He Was Napping. My husband Mike and I live in Massachusetts with our three fantastic kids: Emma (5), Johnny, (3), and Lily (1). I blog about things we enjoy: playing outside, making crafts, science experiments, and great books. I focus on activities for kids that don’t require expensive materials, and that can be completed with minimal preparation and clean-up. Besides day-to-day activities, my blog has several free downloads, including felt food patterns, felt board dress-up templates, and a pattern for a little stuffed monster you can make out of muslin (or a similar fabric), decorate with washable markers, wash, and decorate again (and again, and again!)
Lily, Johnny, and Emma go exploring
I also love to sew clothes for my kids, when I get the chance. Emma's coat in the above picture (far right) is the thing I made that gets admired most when we're out and about; she also LOVES to wear it! I also made the pants Lily (far left) is wearing. All three of my kids are very sensitive to textures, so we sew with a lot of soft cotton, adding fleece in the wintertime to keep them warm!
learning laboratory at mama smiles
I run a “Learning Laboratory” linky every Monday showcasing something we learned because we wanted to (as opposed to “had to”). Sometimes I write about things my kids learned, and sometimes it's about things I try, like drafting my first pattern, and even dealing with ice dams this past winter. I love seeing posts from other blogs, and any post (new or old) is fine to link up!
monthly goals at mama smiles
also run a “Monthly Goals” linky to help keep myself accountable for goals I set each month! I’ve picked health, peace, education, gratitude, and generosity as over-arching themes I’m trying to meet in bits and pieces each month of 2011.

I started blogging on a whim at the end of October, 2008, and I'm so glad I did! I get so many wonderful ideas from other bloggers, and I've enjoyed connecting with people with similar interests from around the world. Drop by and say hi - I'd love to "meet" you!

I'm Krista. Ringleader here on While He Was Napping, wife to my handsome Mr. Right & momma to my THREE energetic boys, Big J (9), Little J (6) & Little N (4). We FINALLY added a beautiful little girl to our family last December.

I’m knee-deep in Tonka trucks & Thomas trains. I survive our crazy days with Vanilla Coke, Sonic slushies, sweet snuggles and little giggles. When I tuck them in tight & kiss them good night, I get a little time to create & just be me.

It all happened
