Saint Patrick’s Day Printables

I have never, ever decorated for Saint Patrick’s Day before.  It’s just really not my holiday.  I will wear the green hair tie or bracelet or something to keep those pinch-happy friends and family at bay, but that’s about the extent of my celebrating.  Until now!

Because St. Patty’s Day isn’t a big holiday, I didn’t want to spend much money on decor.  It’s just not in my saving-for-a-house budget.  So, I turned to the computer and created something.  Actually, several somethings.

If you find your decor lacking in the Saint Patrick’s category, grab yourself one (or two or three or four) of these, print it out and easy, peasy you’re all decorated for St. Patty’s Day! Woo Hoo!  ENJOY!

These are all available at 4shared for free download.  The links are below.  Of course, the downloads don’t have watermarks.  Quotes, quaterfoil and good luck… what more could you want?

Weekend Wander #19

Welcome to another fantastic party!  I hope you’ve had a fantastic week, full of all sorts of creativity.  I have been working on several projects, but I’m gonna keep them a secret.  For now.  We had a great party last week, some very neat projects were linked.  So, on to the features!

Last week’s most clicked link was a tie!  Check out both of these really cool projects!
Many Moments of Me made these super cute signs to go in her house.  What a cute idea!
The Bird’s Papaya did a really cute update to their bedroom!  What a bright and fresh feeling her changes made!
The sewing feature this week is:
Army Wife Quilter‘s ACU skirt.  Maybe you have to be a Military family to appreciate this, but I think it’s awesome.  I once made a purse out of my hubby’s old ACU’s.  Those pockets are AMAZING!  I also like the idea of being able to do this with any pair of pants… not just old Army pants.
The Recipe Feature is:
Italian Pot Roast at It’s a Keeper!  I L.O.V.E. Italian food.  It is, by far, my favorite!  This had my mouth watering just from reading it!
The seasonal feature belongs to Funky Polkadot Giraffe for her rainbow jello.  If only there was a pot of gold at the end of this rainbow…
Congrats Ladies!  Awesome projects!  Featured buttons are in the side bar if you’d like to grab one.
Thank you to everyone who linked up!
Now on to the party!  Let’s see what you’ve got.  What have you been doing this week?
Please don’t link a commercial site.  Etsy shops (and the like are fine).  Ready?  GO!

ABC’s of Love: Z is for

This is it.  The last letter.  I’m a little relieved, because I have some cool projects to show you and now I won’t have to worry about leaving this series half-way done.  But, I have had fun with this.  I hope you have too.  I’ll make this short and sweet though.

Z- Zodiac, Zenith, Zealous, Zillion, Zine, Zoo, Zone

Ideas-
Zodiac-  Go star gazing.

Zenith-  Was there a high-point in your dating relationship (like when he proposed…)?  Take a trip back to memory lane.  If you can’t revisit the location, dedicate a night to remembering.  We have a Monopoly game I made the first year we were married.  It is has different places/activities we did while we were dating.  The coveted dark blue properties are the proposal and our wedding.  It’s fun to play and remember.

Zine-  Make a mini magazine dedicated to your relationship.  Write up mini articles with memories you have made together.  Include pictures.  Print it out or have it bound or whatever you’d like.  It could even be an e-zine!

Zoo-  Go to your local zoo.  Or plan a date to do so.  Take the kids and make it a family day!

Zone-  Get a little physical… with a game of basketball, touch football, or another fun sport.  Invite some friends and have at it.  Play guys against girls for a fun twist!

Carved Candles

Candles are pretty much a necessity in decorating, in my opinion. I’m, by no means, a pro; but, in our house I am the one with the eye for the aesthetically pleasing.  That’s a term I picked up from my 8th grade English teacher.  Weird, right?  Anyway, candles.  Candles are one of those things that are easy to find and aren’t usually a strain on the budget.  And, if they are a strain, there’s probably a way to DIY for a lot less than the name brands are asking.  (Like, did you see these PB knock offs?  I want me some of them!)

Here is a cheap, easy and relatively quick way to embellish your candles.
Here’s the How:
1)  You will need a candle and something to use as a scraping tool.  I used a mechanical pencil that no longer works to scrape the wax on my candle.  It worked pretty well.  I also used a cheap red candle from the Dollar Store.  I did this on purpose, not ‘cause I’m cheap.  Ok, partly because I’m cheap, but I also wanted a candle that just had the color layered on.  With the white wax of the candle base, I didn’t have to paint my carving.  Hopefully, that will make more sense later.
2)  Begin by drawing your pattern on your candle or lightly scratching it into the wax.  I just sorta free-handed the whole thing, but I go against the grain and hate patterns.  I warned you about sewing, but really I just have a general dislike for patterns.
3)  Take your scraping tool (mechanical pencil, in my case) and begin scraping deeper into the candle.  It works best to work in layers.  If you use the cheap Dollar Store candles you will eventually scrape through all the colored wax.  The white wax of the candle base will then show through.  If you are using a solid color candle you can paint your carvings with candle medium and that will make them more visible.  After you’ve gone all the way around your candle or have your chosen design carved, that’s it.  You’re done!
Disclaimer:  These candles are for decorative purposes only.  Don’t burn them, as the thinner wax may melt as your candle burns, creating a fire hazard.
If you MUST burn these (which would be really cool once your candle burns so you can see the light through your carvings) make sure you use a candle plate.  Candles should always be burned on a plate!  And ALWAYS supervise your     lit candles.  If you do burn these and your house catches on fire, I accept no liability.  I did very specifically say don’t do that!

ABC’s of Love: Y is for

Only two more letters!  If you’ve played along, I hope you (and your sweetheart!) have enjoyed learning that there are so many languages of love.  Gifts, gestures, time together, physical affection and any other ways you have discovered.  I hope you’ve made some memories along the way.  It is by remembering the good times that we can make it through the not-so-good times.  At least in my experience.

Y-  Your Eyes Only, Yummy, Yesterday, Young, Year, You, Yearn, Yes, Yosemite, Yahoo

Ideas-
Your Eyes Only-  This can be as naughty as you want to get.  A simple, sweet note like you used to pass in high school or something more risqué.  It’s all up to you.

Yummy-  Make a new dessert recipe.  Or go out for dessert somewhere.  Or serve dessert sans table and utensils… or whatever.  Here’s an easy idea.

Year-  Make plans and schedule date night on your calendar for the next year.  Plan for as often as you would like.  Once a week, month, bi-monthly.  I would suggest at least once a month.  This is a gift that will strengthen your relationship.  Try it.

Yellowstone-  This is more of an example than an absolute.  It doesn’t have to be Yellowstone.  Check out THIS LIST for National Parks in your area.  This list includes parks that have Free Entrance Days through out the year.  This would be a great family outing.  If you have little ones, stop and get out often.  Most parks have places to picnic, hike or walk and some have bicycle trails too.  Don’t forget the sun block!

Yahoo!-  Do something adventurous.  Ride that new roller coaster at the amusement park this summer (you could give your sweetie tickets to the park to mark the day) or skydive like you’ve always wanted to (not me, but maybe you?  If so, make a reservation with a local company and give the reservation info to your honey to mark the date).  I’m a roller coaster junkie.  I wish I’d been to more amusement parks than I have so I could tell you the best roller coasters, but my experience is limited.

I'm Krista. Ringleader here on While He Was Napping, wife to my handsome Mr. Right & momma to my THREE energetic boys, Big J (9), Little J (6) & Little N (4). We FINALLY added a beautiful little girl to our family last December.

I’m knee-deep in Tonka trucks & Thomas trains. I survive our crazy days with Vanilla Coke, Sonic slushies, sweet snuggles and little giggles. When I tuck them in tight & kiss them good night, I get a little time to create & just be me.
