Etsy Exclusive: Songbird’s and Buttons

Hey everyone!  Today’s ETSY EXCLUSIVE is Kendall over at Songbird’s and Buttons!  If you haven’t checked out her cute adorable blog, you should.  She’s also got some super cute stuff in her Etsy Store.  And now, here’s Kendall!

Hi everyone! My name is Kendall and I’m from the blog Songbird’s and Buttons and today I wanted to introduce myself and show you a few things from my Etsy shop that I thought you might enjoy. I am brand-new to blogger and Etsy so I appreciate it so much that Krista is featuring her follower’s. How sweet of her, right? I just found out that I will be expecting a little one after months and months of trying and many, many doctors telling me that it couldn’t happen. My husband and I are ecstatic! My main loves are my kitties, crafting, thrifting and my husband. {Wait, that order seems a bit off.} 🙂

On my blog I talk about all things crafty and on my Etsy I try to create all things cute and adorable from pillows to headbands, cards to owls. Because looking at pretty things makes everyone feel better, right? And having some extra income to save for baby ain’t bad either. Here are a few of the pretty and cute things you’ll find at Songbird’s and Buttons. If you have the time, come on by say hello and poke around my store! Remember, this is my first rodeo so I’ll need your advice and support to get things rolling! 🙂

Thanks Kendall!  Aren’t those adorable!  She’s got some super cute headbands in her shop too.  I want me one of those.  Check out Kendall’s Blog.  And make sure you make a trip over to her Etsy store Songbirds and Buttons!

Hoo Are You?

I missed last week’s Hoo Are You… it’s was a crazy week.  Unpacking, sick baby, piles of laundry, gearing up for Christmas in my Etsy shop.  And trying to get things in order to deliver gifts on our next trip.  I have to have Christmas done for 2/3 of my list in the next two weeks.  Like I said, cRaZy!  So, anyway, here are this week’s questions.

1. Name two things you consider yourself to be very good at.
Uhm, dropping things and “making it work”.  I so often don’t think things all the way through.  And it gets me in trouble… And I’m clumsy… not a great combination!
2. Name two things you consider yourself to be very bad at.
keeping up on laundry and house work.  And skiing.  See the last Hoo Are You post for that explanation…
3. Do you believe everything happens for a reason?
I believe we can learn something from everything that happens.  And yes, if the cup fall off the table the reason is because I bumped it.  But, I don’t know if there is a great purpose for all events
4. What is something you have eaten lately that you shouldn’t have?
hahaha… that half a pan of mint chocolate chip brownies….

5. Do you think the time should change or leave it alone?
Leave it alone.  It messes my little boy all up!

Craftsy ‘Cause I Can: Recipe Box Renovation

This is a super simple way to dress up an old recipe box.  My mom gave me this when I was like 12 or 13.  I started collecting recipes and putting them in this box.  I got most of them at Young Women’s activities from church.  I didn’t avidly collect until I moved out and got married.  And most of that was calling my mom to get the recipes I grew up with!  This would be a great Christmas gift for someone who is getting ready to graduate or get married.  And what an easy way to personalize it!

First, take a recipe box.  I’m pretty sure you can get these at craft stores.  I don’t know a price range.  Mine was a gift.  See how old and ragged it’s looking…

Choose some scrap book paper.  And grab one of my best friends, Modge Podge.

Measure your sides.  I actually did three pieces.  1) The top of the box.  2) The back and right side of the box.  3) The front and left side of the box.  Less seams this way.

I laid down a coat of Modge Podge on the box and then postitioned my paper on top.  Press down firmly, especially around the edges.  Let dry.  You could also do a layer of Modge Podge on top of the paper, but I like the finish matte and all I have is glossy Modge Podge.  So I skipped this step.  Repeat with all the sides, until your box is completely covered.  I didn’t cover the bottom, but you totally could.

At the back, where the hinge is, I took a piece of ribbon and hot glued the edges down on either side of the crease.  The paper was creasing funny and being all bubbly.  I poked holes with a safety pin and squished the bubbles out.  Then glued the ribbon on.  I like it.  If you don’t like the ribbon look, use a bit of water to help make your paper lay flat on your crease when you Modge Podge this part.  Let dry completely before you open the box.  I was too impatient to wait.

This is so much more “me”.  I love it!  It totally doesn’t go with my future kitchen decor (our dishes are blue and brown…well, now they are probably gray from sitting in storage getting covered in dust) but I’m very happy with it.

Weekend Wander #3 Features

Here are last week’s features from Weekend Wander!  There was soo much awesome stuff, it was so hard to choose.  But I love that!  I love the inspiration I get from you guys, uhm… gals.  Thank you for sharing your amazing creativity!  Keep it coming!

Check out the awesomeness of this!  Suzy over at Suzy’s Artsy Craftsy Sitcom not only did the beautiful quilling on this monogram, she also made the monogram!  Seriously, check this out!
Look at this super cute burlap wreath over at LaForce Be With You!  This is beautiful!  I love the sprig of color at the bottom… and I do have that huge box of raffia…. hmmmm……
Who doesn’t love some yummy pumpkin chocolate chip muffins?  I know I sure do.  Check out this awesome recipe by Chelsea at Crafter’s Anonymous Club.
It’s already that time of the year again.  Christmas crafts are already abundant in the blog universe.  What a cute little sign over at Fireflies and Family.
If only I had the ambition… To be honest, our table is usually covered in craft stuff.  Or mail.  It’s never a gorgeous tablescape like Jenny sets over at Simcoe Street.
Grab a featured button from the sidebar if you’d like one.

Thanks to everyone who shared with us last week (and to everybody that linked up this weekend too!).  I love seeing all the great projects everyone is working on.
Ok.  Now for a lame announcement.  First, my long ole list of excuses reasons.  As I’m sure you all know, this is a busy time of the year.  A lot of traveling and parties and preparation in general.  We have a big trip coming up in a few weeks and on this trip I plan to do a large amount of gift delivering, because postage is insane.  So, not only do I have travel prep for 3 people, there is also the gifting aspect.  All of the gifts we’re delivering are handmade.  Oh, yeah… and I haven’t made them yet.
Getting to the point, this month I am throwing my schedule to the wind.  I just don’t have the time to post everyday on schedule.  It’s stressing me out a little and I feel like I don’t have enough hours in the day, so somethings gotta go.  I will still post regularly, just maybe not everyday or on my established schedule.  I hope you will stick around.  I have a lot of crafting, cooking and creating to do this holiday season and am excited to share it.  I just wanted to let you know what’s going on.

Weekend Wander #4

Please vote in the Halloween Costume Contest.  It there aren’t enough votes to get a winner (because I can’t afford to send prizes to every single person that entered!) I will use Random.org or let my sisters pick.  So, please take thirty seconds and check it out!
Also, don’t forget to enter the CSN Stores $35 Giveaway.

Let’s get this party started a little early.  I didn’t get the features put together yet, but I will.  For now, I’m dealing with a sick little monkey or out on a hot date with my hubby.  Actually, we’ll be in the mountains, and it’s not so hot up there.  But, I will get those up on Monday, if not sooner.  It’s a Drill Weekend, so who knows what kind of time I’ll have on my hands…  I wanna see what your little hands have been working on!  Let’s link!

On to the Party!
The Rules:
1. All links MUST be family friendly.  Or I will delete it.

I would love for you to become a follower.  It’s the little button on the side bar that says “Follow”.  =]   I would also appreciate any help in spreading the word about Weekend Wander… that’s what that cute little button below is for.  If you like what you see and plan on being a regular, I’d love for you to add my name to your link party list (who doesn’t have one of those, right!?!) or my button to your blog.

However, by linking, you are giving me permission to use your photos in a feature of your project.  Of course, this feature will include a link back to the original post.  Thanks!

I'm Krista. Ringleader here on While He Was Napping, wife to my handsome Mr. Right & momma to my THREE energetic boys, Big J (9), Little J (6) & Little N (4). We FINALLY added a beautiful little girl to our family last December.

I’m knee-deep in Tonka trucks & Thomas trains. I survive our crazy days with Vanilla Coke, Sonic slushies, sweet snuggles and little giggles. When I tuck them in tight & kiss them good night, I get a little time to create & just be me.
