{Artsy VaVa} Pumpkin Pendants

Today, we get to meet another one of my contributors!  Virginia from Artsy VaVa is here to share a super cute tutorial on how to make your own Fall or Halloween-inspired pendants!  So, here’s Virginia…

______________________________________________________
It’s October!
And, with that,  it feels as though Fall has officially begun.  The air is a little cooler, leaves are becoming a little more colorful, and pumpkins are popping up everywhere.
Add a little touch of Autumn to your wardrobe with these adorable pumpkin pendants.

Supplies:
Dominoes
Alcohol Inks
Alcohol Blending Solution
Alcohol Ink Applicator With Felt
3D Pumpkins: We found ours in the scrapbook section.
Paper Banner: Also found in the scrapbook section.
Glue
Glossy Accents
Jewelry Bails
Add a few drops of alcohol ink to the felt applicator.
Add a drop or two of the blending solution.
Start dabbing the ink onto the domino.
For our first pendant we used orange alcohol ink.

Don’t forget the sides of the Domino.

Once the ink is dry, glue on a pumpkin.

Cover the domino and pumpkin with Glossy Accents.
This will go on cloudy but will dry clear.
Use a toothpick or pin to pop any bubbles.

Once the Glossy Essentials is dry,
glue a jewelry bail onto the back of the Domino using E6000.

Adorable!

For the second pendant,
dab on orange and green alcohol ink to the Domino.

Allow to dry and glue the paper banner onto the Domino.
The strings of the banner made it too long,
so they were cut to the appropriate length.

Add a pumpkin and cover with Glossy Accents.

Once dry, add a bail to the back.

This would be a great project to do with kids.
These also make great magnets.
Just glue a magnet onto the back instead of the bail.

What is your favorite thing about Fall?______________________________________________________

Those are pretty darn cute!  My kids would love those.  I love the little spider.  Creepy, but not gross.  and the banner on the other one… ahh, too cute.  I would never have thought of that.  Thanks, Virginia!  Go check out all the other fun things over at Artsy VaVa now!

October Spooktacular: Oldies, but Goodies

So, although October doesn’t officially start until tomorrow, I decided to go ahead and get Halloween started.  Because, well……. I’ve been wanting to do Halloween for like a month.  But, I kept it to planning and scheming and dreaming and, all I have to say is you are not going to want to miss this!  Pinky Promise.

We’ll finally get to meet a few of the new contributors (you’ll meet the rest next month).  I have some very cool projects planned (potion bottles and DIY spell books for starters… sneak peek, anyone?), some yummy snacks and treats, some fun things to do with the kiddos, a date night or two, some fun printables are coming your way and a fun announcement should round out the month.  It’s gonna be fabulous.  And there might be a giveaway or two in there as well…

So, welcome to October Spooktacular, Fourth Edition at While He Was Napping.

As the title of this post implies, let’s take a look at the best projects, recipes and decor from the past three years.  Some of my favorite posts {of all time} come from previous October Spooktaculars.  So, enough yammering.  Let’s dive right in:

{Guest Post} Mango Mint Freezer Jam by Mom’s Cup of Ambition

Today, Jillian from Mom’s Cup of Ambition is here to share a delicious recipe with us.  I do some very basic canning and making of jam and love it.  I will definitely have to remember this delicious recipe for future use!  So, here’s Jillian:

____________________________________________________

Mango Mint Freezer Jam Homemade jam is delicious – unlike most of the stuff you buy in the store it actually tastes like fruit. This mango mint freezer jam is a good one to keep in mind because it’s super easy, and it isn’t season dependent like many fruit and berry based jams. You can enjoy it as a spread, give it as a gift, or use it as a topping over yogurt.

I use Ball brand freezer jam containers when I make this, but you can use anything that is freezer safe. This recipe makes two 8 oz (1/2 pint) containers of jam, but it scales very well if you’d like to make more. When you fill your containers, make sure to leave room for the jam to expand – a half inch is a good rule of thumb.

MANGO MINT FREEZER JAM

Ingredients:
– 1 2/3 cups frozen, chopped mango, defrosted
– 2/3 cups granulated sugar
– 2 tablespoons instant pectin
– 1 tablespoon fresh mint, finely chopped

Directions:
– In a large bowl, mix the sugar and pectin together.
– Crush the mango using a potato masher, and add it to the sugar and pectin. Stir for three minutes.
– Add the mint and stir to incorporate.
– Ladle the fruit mixture into clean freezer safe jars. Let the jam stand for 30 minutes before serving.
– At this point you can refrigerate your jam for up to three weeks, or freeze it for up to a year.

____________________________________________________
Thanks, Jillian!  Oh my goodness, doesn’t that sound so yummy!  I am going to have to try this.  I bet my family would love it.  Go check out all the awesome stuff Jillian has for you over at Mom’s Cup of Ambition!

18 Awesome Autumn Projects, Recipes & Printables

I wanted to share some of my favorite Autumn projects today.  We finally have had a couple days of “sweater weather” here.  I’m not sure how long it will stick around; but, for now, I’ll enjoy pulling the sweaters out of the drawers for a few days.

The first set of projects are some of my favorite previous posts I’ve done here on While He Was Napping or guest posted else where.  The second set are Pin-Worthy Projects –  projects from my Autumn pinterest board that, maybe someday, I’ll find the time to take on.

My Faves
Awesome Autumn Projects! Food, decor, crafts, printables and kids projects!

1.  Halloween DIY Hurricane Vases
2.  Button Art Printables
3.  Burlap Framed Faux Wreath
4.  Felt Leaf Table Runner
Awesome Autumn Projects! Food, printables, crafts, and kid's projects!
1.  Easy Peach Cobbler (5 ingredients, the rest are optional)
2.  Autumn Subway Art Printables (5 colors available)
3.  Hello, Autumn… I’ve been waiting… Printable
4.  Butterscotch Marshmallow Brownies

Awesome Autumn Projects! Food, decor, crafts, printables and kids projects!

1.  Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies
2.  Toilet Paper Roll Pumpkins
3.  Pumpkin Spice Play Dough
4.  DIY Chalkboard with Fall & Halloween Subway Art

Pin-Worthy Projects
And, with a little bit of leg work, I found most of the original (I think) sources for you.

Check out this deliciously tasty snack mix over at Saving4Six!
I love sweet and salty.  I am definitely doing this.
Might as well get a little bit of protein and some fruit while I’m satisfying my sweet tooth!

Mmmmmm.  Drool.  Caramel apples are some of my favorite Fall treats.
Check out the details on the how-to at Shugary Sweets!
And put apples on your shopping list!

I couldn’t find the actual original source on this one…
Need a quick and easy centerpiece?
How about some candles surrounded by cinnamon sticks and twine?
Find the details at Home and Garden Blog.

Fall button frame.  This would be adorable around a corn maze photo.
This specific one {was} available on Etsy from a cute shop called Buttons Gone Wild.

This was actually part of a craft night kit over at You Craft Me Up and there aren’t specific directions.
But you get the basic idea.  Maria says the pumpkins are quite tall.  Between 15″ and 19″.
You could make this one pretty easy and there you have a fabulously adorable porch decoration.

So, if Halloween isn’t really your thing, maybe one of these Autumn projects would suit your fancy a little better.  If not one of these, there are plenty more to choose from.  And, as a bonus, you can leave them up until it’s time to pull out the Christmas decor!

I'm Krista. Ringleader here on While He Was Napping, wife to my handsome Mr. Right & momma to my THREE energetic boys, Big J (9), Little J (6) & Little N (4). We FINALLY added a beautiful little girl to our family last December.

I’m knee-deep in Tonka trucks & Thomas trains. I survive our crazy days with Vanilla Coke, Sonic slushies, sweet snuggles and little giggles. When I tuck them in tight & kiss them good night, I get a little time to create & just be me.
