October Spooktacular: Super Simple Subway Art

WHWN OS banner
This will be the first of many printables.  I went a little crazy and you should plan to use my psychosis to your full decorating advantage.  This printable is simple and versatile.  The white background allows for printing on just about any paper you can fit into your printer.  Obviously, black paper is a no-go.  If you’d like an inverse version of black background with white text, let me know.  If there’s some interest, I’ll put one up.  So, go crazy!  Enjoy!

And be sure to come back.  There’s plenty more where this little beauty came from.   Happy Haunting!

October Spooktacular: Googly Eye Frame

I first saw this idea on A Diamond in the Stuff and promptly pinned it to my Halloween Pinterest Board.  How totally cute is this?  I definitely needed to make one for myself, so I did.

2011-09-19_17-18-18_490 This is my version of the Googly Eye Frame.
To see Courtney’s version, follow the link above.
Here’s the How:
Supplies:
– One picture frame with a thick border (Got mine at Dollar Tree)
– One bag of assorted size googly eyes (also got these at Dollar Tree)
– Black Paint
– Hot glue gun and glue sticks
1)  I spray painted my frame black.  It was a weird silvery cardboard color, I can’t even describe it very well.  If you like the color, leave it alone.  Or go with a green, purple or orange.  Let it dry well.2011-09-19_16-10-36_1202011-09-19_16-17-31_119
2)  Grab your glue gun and sit yourself on the sofa with a couple DVR (or Netflix, in my case) episodes.  You’ll be able to multi-task and catch up on your current Grey’s Anatomy or whatever your poison may be.  Glue, glue and glue some more.  I found that I needed to hold my googly eyes for a few seconds after I stuck them to the frame so the hot glue didn’t warp the plastic on the back of the eye.  Maybe try a low temp glue gun.  If I held them for a couple seconds, they did just fine though.

3)  You could embellish your frame with some ribbon or chipboard letters like Courtney did, but I liked it just as it was and left it alone.  Besides, nap time was over and Little Monkey kept running off with my googly eyes.

Obviously, you’ll put something far cuter than the inserts from the store in the frame… but I’m saving that reveal for tomorrow…  So come back and check that out.

October Spooktacular: Halloween Costume Contest

Welcome to the 2nd Annual While He Was Napping October Spooktacular Halloween Costume Contest!  Now say that five times fast!  Come link up your costumes, past and present.  Who will be the big winner this year?

To Enter:
Link to your costume.  It can be a blog post, a photo on Facebook, flickr, ect or located elsewhere.  The costume doesn’t have to be hand-made and it doesn’t have to be this year’s costume.  A tutorial does not need to accompany the costume.   However, please do not link to something you are selling.  I will delete these links.  You may link up however many costumes you would like.

Voting will open one week before Halloween and close on November 6.  I will announce the winner sometime the week of November 6-12, 2011.  The prize has yet to be determined.  More information will be forthcoming on that, but it’ll be something fun.  Promise.

Please grab a button to let others know about the party (and tell them to come vote!)  Good Luck!

Welcome To October Spooktacular, 2nd Edition

Hey Everyone!  I want to welcome you to October Spooktacular this year!

Halloween is the kick-off to the holiday season, at least it is for me.  I like to make the celebrations last as long as possible.  This month on While He Was Napping you will find lots and lots of Halloween ideas.  I’ll share some of the fun things I’ve been up to while getting ready for this eerie holiday, as well as highlight other great ideas from around the blogosphere and the World Wide Web.  I hope you’ll join me for some spooky treats, creepy crafts and all the eerie Halloween goodness we can cram into this month.

I want you to share your Halloween ideas too.  There is a link party specifically for Halloween set up.  It will  remain open all month, so keep adding all your great ideas.  Also, we’re having another Costume Contest this year.  For the details on that, and how to enter for your chance at the loot bag, check THIS out.  I will keep an index on the sidebar for easy access to all the Halloween ideas that I’ve shared so far and will update it regularly through out the month.  I hope to see you all soon, and frequently, so we can share all things Halloween!

And, if you really like me, you’ll add this cute button to your blog so others can come share in the spooky times too…

October Spooktacular: Easy Spooky Specimen Art

I love specimen art.  It’s neat and linear and everything has a place and, not only does it have a place, it’s actually where it’s supposed to be!  I’ve been madly putting Halloween decor together during nap time, and after Little Monkey is in bed when My Mr Right is out of town.  I have so many ideas, and so little time (not to mention limited funds).  So, when an easy project presents itself, how can I turn it down?

2011-09-23_13-45-36_461

Here’s the How:
Supplies-
–  1 bag of assorted Halloween rings (the cheap, plastic ones.  I found mine in packages of 50 at Dollar Tree… I think I could single-handedly keep them in business…)
–  1 picture frame with the glass removed
–  1 sheet of Halloween scrapbook paper that will fit inside your frame (use whatever your little heart desires, it doesn’t have to be specifically Halloween paper)
–  Hot glue gun and glue sticks
–  Scissors

1)  Cut the rings off of your spiders (or bats or skulls or whatever kind of rings you purchased).
2011-09-23_13-07-53_294

2)  Assemble the frame with the scrapbook paper inside.  If you need to do any painting to your frame do it before you assemble anything.
 2011-09-23_13-06-25_85

3)  Take the glue gun and glue the ring pieces in a linear pattern.  You may want to draw a light line in pencil with a ruler to help you keep the lines straight.  I’m one of those people that ALWAYS write crooked on unlined paper.
2011-09-23_13-46-06_296

Hang or set up your frame and bask in how cheap and easy that was.  Score!

I'm Krista. Ringleader here on While He Was Napping, wife to my handsome Mr. Right & momma to my THREE energetic boys, Big J (9), Little J (6) & Little N (4). We FINALLY added a beautiful little girl to our family last December.

I’m knee-deep in Tonka trucks & Thomas trains. I survive our crazy days with Vanilla Coke, Sonic slushies, sweet snuggles and little giggles. When I tuck them in tight & kiss them good night, I get a little time to create & just be me.

It all happened
