Witch Away Kit with U by Kotex® and CVS

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #ConfidenceUDeserve #CollectiveBias

Are you one of those ladies that can plan your schedule around that time of the month? Or maybe Aunt Flo is more of a drop-in kind of guest for you? Does she pass through your life with little more than a fleeting “hello-goodbye”? Or does she come and stay WAAAY passed her welcome? I have had all those interactions with every lady’s favorite aunt. But, more often than not, she comes bounding in at the least convenient times, stays days longer than I want her to and, sometimes, even brings out my inner witch. But even in October, I try to keep her under wraps. Cue the Witch Away Kit.

WITCH AWAY KIT
with U by Kotex® & CVS

Witch Away Kit with Kotex period survival kit

The idea behind the Witch Away Kit is to pamper yourself just a little more than usual. Take a little more “me time” and don’t let that wily aunt wreak havoc; don’t let her pesky ways get to you. Being a lady has it’s ups and downs. Make more ups for yourself and celebrate being a woman. Because being a woman is awesome.

Every woman’s Witch Away Kit may look a little different. Splurge a little and get things you love and enjoy and wish you had more time for. Stash them in your kit. When you’re feeling down or under the weather and that pesky aunt is being particularly persistent with her antics, pull out your kit and show her who’s boss, because, Girl, it’s YOU! Here is what is in my Witch Away Kit:

Materials:
– U by Kotex® Ultra Thin Pads®
– U by Kotex® Barely There Liners®
– pain reliever of choice
– chocolate (it’s dark chocolate, it’s good for you, right?!)
– guilty pleasure magazines
– foot scrub (or face scrub you plan to use on your feet)
– moisturizing lotion
– nail polish remover
– cotton pads
– pedicure kit (get as fancy as you please. I went for the deluxe kit and haven’t regretted it!)
– new nail polish (yes, get new ones. Even if you have 122,234 bottles at home. There’s something special about a new bottle. It doesn’t have to be expensive. Unless you have a color that you just absolutely LOVE in your stash at home.)

Witch Away Kit with Kotex Whats in my period survival kit
Witch Away Kit with Kotex witchy setting
I scored all my loot at my local CVS and I keep all these fun things in a cauldron. Yes, a cauldron. Where else would that inner witch keep her stash? It is October after all; she might peek through more than usual. And it all fits so phenomenally, I couldn’t pass it up.

Witch Away Kit with Kotex InStore

Are you more of a tampon kind of girl? U by Kotex® also has some great tampons. I find I don’t use tampons a whole awful lot since having my babies, so I don’t keep a lot of them on hand. Since my hips have widened, I just cant seem to find one that fits me well. There are some neat U by Kotex® Click® compact ones that offer full-sized protection in one easy move though. When it clicks, it’s ready to insert. Perfect for when you want to carry a spare in your pocket. And the U by Kotex® Sleek® tampons sound like they would be perfect for someone with the opposite of my hip problem. Their smooth tip and slim size help you get the perfect fit.

Witch Away Kit with Kotex U by Kotex® Products

If you like the pad option, the Ultra Thin pads I got have the U by Kotex® 3D Capture Core® with Xpress DRI that quickly draws in and locks away wetness, which is a feature I love. No one wants to sit in their own puddle. {Insert shudder now… Eeesh.}

Be sure to grab this coupon for $2 off your next U by Kotex® purchase and go now and check out more of the U by Kotex® feminine hygiene products line! If you want even more ideas on how you can pamper yourself when Auntie Flo comes to town, check out these other fun and fabulous ideas!

Staying Healthy Starts With Staying Hydrated

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #PureLifeRippleEffect #CollectiveBias

I have always struggled with getting my boys to drink water and staying hydrated.  In fact, sometimes, I have a hard time making sure I drink enough and am staying hydrated.  A big part of my problem is remembering to have water easily accessible and on hand throughout my day, especially if it’s an errand-running day.  My boys’ biggest problem is the taste.  They don’t love it.  They don’t hate it, but it’s not exciting and it’s not the first thing they prefer to quench their thirst.  At three years old, Little J doesn’t care that it’s healthy or good for him.  He wants something that tastes delicious.  That boy would drink his weight daily in milk and juice if I’d let him.  Big J isn’t as hard to get to drink water, but if his brothers don’t have to drink water, he doesn’t want to drink it either.  I came up with a system over the summer that has actually been working quite well for us.

MY FAMILY IS STAYING HYDRATED SO THEY CAN STAY HEALTHY
Staying Hydrated Nestle Pure Life Water Tracking System Vertical

We traveled a lot this past summer.  I mean half of our summer vacation was spent out of town.  It is hard to have your routine disrupted for that long and that often.  The things we weren’t really good at to begin with – like drinking enough water – became even more difficult to keep track of when every day was something new and different all day long.  I decided I needed a better way to track my kids hydration than hoping we didn’t end up in the hospital.  Here’s what I did: I made it a game!  I would mark off “check points” on my boys’  water bottles and each time they reached a checkpoint, we would do something fun or they would get a small reward.  It wasn’t anything major – we might paint a picture or they could choose a snack to enjoy (there’s a difference between “snacks” and “treats” in our house… I didn’t want all that water consumption negated by copious amounts of sugar).

Things You’ll Need:
– Water bottle for each child – Most of the time, like when we’re at home, in the car or won’t have to worry about keeping track of lots of belongings, we use hard plastic, reusable bottles.  But I really love Nestlé® Pure Life® Water bottles when we’re going to be somewhere I don’t want to keep track of my boys’ three nice water bottles.  The 8 ounce Junior size is perfect for little hands.  I will tell you how I use this method on both kinds of bottles, since the set up is slightly different.
– Washi Tape or other easy to remove tape – masking tape works well.  If you are using disposable bottles, you can skip this material.  But, if you are using a bottle you will want to wash, washi and masking tape can be removed pretty cleanly as long as you don’t leave it on for too long or expose it to extremely hot temperatures.  It makes washing the bottle a lot easier.  If you don’t mind marking up your bottles, you could write right on the side of the bottle with the permanent marker.  It will probably fade after a few washings, but you can just darken them up with the marker again.
– Permanent Marker
– Container that will measure ounces (or milliliters) – I used a baby bottle

Staying Hydrated Nestle Pure Life Water Tracking System

Directions:

If you use a water bottle that is already full of water (like Nestlé® Pure Life®), skip to the directions below for how to mark your bottle.

1. Fill up the container you’re using to measure with water.  You’ll just use this water to mark your bottles.  You won’t drink it, so you can use tap water and then water your plants with it or something.

2. I decided to go three ounces at a time.  That was enough water to make sure my kids were drinking all day and staying hydrated but not so much that they became overwhelmed and refused to drink.  Use whatever quantity you want.  Pour your chosen quantity of water into your water bottle.

Staying Hydrated Nestle Pure Life Bottled Water Tracking System Checkpoint1
3. With the permanent marker make a mark on the washi or masking tape at the top of your water level.

Staying Hydrated Nestle Pure Life Bottled Water Tracking System Checkpoints

  1. Continue adding water and marking it on the bottle until you’ve reached the top.

You can now fill the bottle with your preferred water, infused water, herbal tea or whatever you are trying to encourage your kids (or yourself!) to stay hydrated with.

STAYING HYDRATED WITH PRE-FILLED WATER BOTTLES

If you are going to be out somewhere that you don’t want to have to keep track off water bottles for everyone, you can use the same method with a plastic water bottle.  It’s just a little different to set up.  Here’s how:

Things you’ll need:
– Water bottles filled with water
– Ruler
– Permanent Marker

Staying Hydrated Nestle Pure Life Bottled Water Tracking System Materials

Directions:
– Lay the bottle on its side.
– Line up the ruler with the bottom of the bottle.

Staying Hydrated Nestle Pure Life Bottled Water Tracking System Materials

– I usually chose to do every inch, for the same reason I mentioned I do every three ounces above.  It’s enough to keep my boys drinking without being overwhelming.  Use the permanent marker to mark your chosen quantity all the way up the side of the bottle.

Staying Hydrated Nestle Pure Life Bottled Water Tracking System

You can keep some extra bottles if your kids drink all the water in the bottles they start with.  Or you can refill them for the day and then recycle them – whatever your preference.

STAYING HYDRATED CAN BE REWARDING

Staying Hydrated Nestle Pure Life Bottled Water Tracking System Encourage Your Kids to Drink More

When my kids hit a mark on their water bottles they get a small reward.  The rewards are simple, healthy or educational.  Usually, it’s things they would have gotten or we would have done any way.  But, because my boys get to choose, they feel like it’s a big deal and are motivated to keep “earning” these special treats.  Our rewards include things like:

  • choosing a healthy snack – usually fruit
  • 10 minutes of tablet time – we have some favorite educational games
  • reading a story
  • painting a picture
  • playing with play dough
  • doing a science experiment
  • riding bikes
  • drawing with chalk
  • fingerpainting
  • playing in the backyard

This month though, we have some fun Halloween activities that my boys can chose from.  You can print out the fun printable below with some of the fun activities I will be offering my kids when they hit their checkpoints.  I’m excited to be able to do some fun things with my boys and celebrate Halloween too!  Click the photo to get the download link.  Save and then print.

In a recent survey conducted by Nestlé® Pure Life® 88% of moms surveyed* said water is the beverage their child most regularly drinks in the car. Make this a healthy habit by making sure that each child has a bottle of water in hand before they leave the house.  This has really helped my kids up their water intake. In the survey, Nestlé® also found that kids are most likely to choose a drink other than water at restaurants (where 54% choose soda) and celebrations (where 58% choose soda).*  That’s a lot of sugar!

And did you know that a majority of kids say they prefer a homemade lunch (57%) over a school bought lunch.* This preference for packed lunches offers a key hydration opportunity for moms – packing a bottle of water can help increase a child’s water intake for the day.  Big J will often ask if he can take a cold lunch and I’ve tried to make more for him, even with my busy schedule. In your child’s lunch is a great time to offer more water, even if you aren’t actually present to give them the offer.

Robin Plotkin, Registered and licensed dietitian, suggests asking your children if they’d like a drink of water every time you go for a drink of water. Soon, says Plotkin, your kids will be asking you if you’d like to join them for a water break.

As a proud supporter of the Partnership for a Healthier America’s Drink Up initiative, Nestlé® Pure Life® is committed to helping families make healthier choices, starting with hydration.  Establishing healthy habits in early childhood has lifelong benefits. We call this The Ripple Effect, and we’re encouraging moms and their kids to reach for water first.  To ignite The Ripple Effect movement and encourage kids to get the water they need throughout their day, Nestlé Pure Life is providing water to kids this school year through After- School All-Stars, an organization that strives to keep children safe and healthy through afterschool programming.  At PureLifeRippleEffect.com, moms can share tips and tricks that they use to teach their kids about the importance of staying healthy and hydrated. With this movement, moms will be empowered to send their kids off to school each day fueled and hydrated.  To help your family Drink Up and be a part of the Ripple Effect – a movement to keep kids hydrated – visit pureliferippleeffect.com and share your tips for healthy hydration using #pureliferippleeffect. Nestlé® Pure Life® has committed to provide nearly one million 8 ounce servings of water to kids this school year through After-School All-Stars. Information source – At over 20 participating schools in select markets across the country

You can find Nestlé® Pure Life® Water at Walmart in the grocery section with the bottled water and other beverages.  I love the convenience of being able to get it when I’m out doing other shopping.  It helps me keep water easily accessible for my family, and that is a huge key for us in staying hydrated.

Knocking Out My Sinus Congestion Nightmare with SUDAFED® #SinusStruggle #ad

I wrote this post as part of my participation in a blog tour on behalf of Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. McNeil Consumer Healthcare Division, the makers of SUDAFED®. I received compensation to thank me for taking the time to participate. However, all opinions expressed are my own.

October brings some pretty scary things: ghosts, goblins and spooky spirits. For me, one of the worst things I suffer from is sinus congestion. Big J brings home all kinds of germs from school and the other two pick up who knows what in Nursery at church on Sundays. The sniffles are bound to happen. I have sinus congestion most of the year, not just in October; but, it gets worse in the spring and fall, when the seasons change. So, combine sinus congestion with allergies and it’s a nightmare. My gross, phlemy, pain-filled nightmare.

SUDAFED® #SinusStruggle BalloonHead

Sinus congestion, for me, feels a little different each day. Usually, it feels a lot like my head is a balloon, just kinda floating along. I feel disconnected from everything else, groggy, and tired. Some days, it’s like an elephant is standing on my face. On particularly bad days, the sinus pressure is so intense it gives me migraines. My world feels a little blurry.

Part of that balloon-feeling I get makes my hearing and sight ultra sensitive. I have three boys… three loud, busy, mischievous, rambunctious boys. Or three eyes-burning, ears-throbbing, headache-inducing boys. I could spend my bad days curled up on the sofa, doing the very least I can while the TV entertains my boys. But, that’s not what I want my little guys to remember about their mom and childhood. So, instead, I reach for my SUDAFED®.

SUDAFED® #SinusStruggle Sensitive Hearing

SUDAFED® makes my sinus congestion bearable. The pressure goes away. The sensitivity to light and sound isn’t debilitating. The balloon-feeling isn’t there. I feel connected and present. I can function. Even better, I can interact and play with my kids. We make memories and have adventures instead of just surviving. All thanks to the sinus congestion relief I get from SUDAFED®.

BOO It Forward with the Game Night BOO Kit

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #BOOItForward #CollectiveBias

I’ve mentioned before that when I was growing up, we didn’t do much celebrating of Halloween. My mom doesn’t particularly like the holiday and so it was minimally recognized. One thing we did get to do, though, was BOO’ing our friends. I have three siblings and each of us would get to choose a family to BOO. Some years, we would go all out and make fun Halloween cookies and treats to share and some years it was a little more simple. But, it wasn’t really about what was in the goody baskets, it was putting them together as a family. And, of course, delivering them was the best part!

This is a tradition I wanted to share with my family now. We made three kits to share with some friends. I wanted something simple and easy. Life is busy and I just didn’t have hours to spend baking Halloween goodies. Lucky for me, MARS/Wrigley has an amazing BOO it Forward campaign going on and putting together our BOO kits was super simple.

SUPER SIMPLE PRINTABLE GAME NIGHT BOO KIT

BOO it Forward Printable Game Night BOO Kit

Materials:
– BOO It Forward Printable Card for each kit
– MARS Mixed Minis Chocolate Candy Assortment (52 oz)
– MARS Chocolate Mix Fun Size Candy Assortment
– Sunkist® 8oz cans in 6pk
– Pin the Face on the Jack-O-Lantern Printable Game for each kit
– Halloween Bingo Printable Game for each kit
– Bowl or other container for each kit

PUT TOGETHER YOUR BOO IT FORWARD KITS

Directions:
– We grabbed some of our favorite goodies at Walmart: some Sunkist® soda and an assortment of delicious MARS chocolates. I also grabbed a couple of big bowls that were on clearance to stash all our loot in.

BOO it Forward InStore
– I decided we should probably put in something else and it was Big J who thought of including the Halloween games we’ve been playing around here the last couple weeks. So, I made up a few more of the Pin the Face on the Jack-O-Lantern game and some more of the Halloween Bingo game I shared yesterday. We put them in ziptop baggies to keep them together.

– I put the minis on the bottom of the bowl.

– Then, I tucked the games at the back, just under the mini candy bars.

– Next, I stuck in two of the soda cans on each side of the bowl.

BOO it Forward Printable Game Night BOO Kit Soda Cans
– I took the BOO It Forward printable card, folded it in half and taped it together with some fun Halloween washi tape. This will let your friends know how they can pass on the fun Halloween cheer. Cut the directions off the We’ve Been BOO’d poster and put that in with the card. Your friends can then hang the poster in their window so others will know that they have already been BOO’d once.

– Then, I put in the last can of soda and filled in the spaces with the fun size candy.

We loaded the kiddos up in the car and delivered our three baskets. Mr. Napping and the two oldest boys left the goody baskets on the doorsteps while Baby N and I stayed in the car. And just like their momma, they thought the best part was the delivery! Who could you BOO to share the Halloween spirit? Check out more awesome BOO kit ideas and get out there and share some goodies!

HALLOWEEN BINGO DIRECTIONS:

DOWNLOAD AND PRINT THE GAME BOARDS

1. Print the Halloween bingo game boards from the link above. It’s a single PDF file, so there’s only one file to download. Save it to your computer then open the file. There are five different game board layouts. You will need one extra board than you have players, as you’ll use one board to create the draw pile pieces. Print off the number of game boards you need, plus one extra.

CREATING THE DRAW PILE PIECES

2. If you are going to use scrapbook paper to line the back of your Halloween Bingo draw pile pieces, use the glue stick to glue the extra game board and the scrapbook paper together. Place the papers back to back and glue.

Halloween Bingo Printable Draw Pile Supplies
3. Cut apart the squares on the extra board you printed. If you’re not going to laminate your boards, you are now ready to play. I chose to laminate the boards for one reason: so my kids could use dry erase markers to mark off their boards and I didn’t have to supply candy or other markers every time they wanted to play. It’s a bonus that the boards are a little more protected too.

LAMINATE FOR DURABILITY

4. Turn on your laminator and let it warm up (I use and love an older version of this laminator). Place each board inside a laminating pouch, centering it in the pouch. Place the draw pile pieces, one at a time and not touching, inside a laminating pouch. Be sure there is enough space between each piece for the pouch to seal and stay sealed once you cut the pieces apart.

5. Run the pages through the laminator, one at a time. Let cool to the touch.

6. Cut the draw pile pieces apart.

READY, SET, PLAY THE HALLOWEEN BINGO WAY!

That’s it! You’re now ready to play Halloween Bingo! It’s the perfect activity for a Halloween party, in the class room or just a fun game for a laid back afternoon with the kids.

My 18 month old had a great time drawing a card and matching it to the boards. Of course, he liked the version with candy better, but I can’t blame the boy there? He definitely got my sweet tooth.
